I haven't found any adverts in posts yet but it sounds horrible! I did, however, notice the BANNER ads at the bottom of the page, which are annoying, but I would buch rather have a banner ad to a harmless site at the bottom of a page than having adverts IN a post. I am afraid of this one point: what if the ads that pop up are not to "safe" sites or have pictures of "half-naked" people on them? My mom and I BOTH run Christian forums on here and I am concerned. So far the only ad I've seen is for that screensaver site, and I don't know how a link to a screensaver site will make you money. Please explain.
HELP!

The new style banners at the bottom are hand picked and hence fairly safe. The "in post ads" are the same old google ads that have always been there, just smaller and more infrequent.
I think the fact that you have not seen them says something about them! _________________

The; ________________ separates the post from the .SIG's and there is a different line which separates the post from the ad. The google ads are only there sometimes.

Not sure on this. _________________

The new format is not a problem Admin. I noticed the ad's in the last post of the thread but it's not really distracting. Do whatever you have to do to keep the forum's free and you head above water. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. | Yeah, I just started my forum within the last month or so, so it's barely anything yet, but I've been quite happy with this service (especially due to the more liberal atmosphere of the content rules compared to other free forum providers). So really, while I prefer the banners at the top of the page, these tiny banner ads aren't a big deal to me. They're certainly worth it to pay for the system. | admin wrote: | Now we are part of MarsJupiter Limited which has the income to spare to keep myfreeforum.org going, and has a very strong ethical track record (for example putting a vast amount of free effort into downsizer.net) so there is no question of the company pulling the plug | As long as that's the case, a bit of advertising isn't any sort of problem. Thanks. _________________ Court Jester of the Jadepocalypse www.cellardoorpublishing.com

I'll keep coming back to the same points, the number of adverts has decreased by over 20%, the size of those adverts has also decreased, and whilst only a total fool would make confident observations xmas week, the indications are that the income has risen significantly allowing us to look at things like wysiwyg post editor, making getting more powerful servers easier, and at the end of the way making it look like we can call this a viable service.
You will have seen the "Donation" button at the top right of the forum. That has been there as an honest request that donations have been needed to help give people the service we all want. I hope I will be able to look at that button in a couple of weeks and decide that it cannot stay in its present form.
A service that is not reliant on the good will of a company to keep funding it at a loss, has to be a good thing. _________________

I have further reduced the number of advert blocks shown by 12%
I am also beginning a process of biasing advertising so that guests see more advertising and logged in members see less. Don't worry anyone I do not mean guests will see any different advertising, simply the % of the time they see it will be greater. _________________

I can't think of a reason why guests whouldn't have 100% advertisements, unless it causes all of the posts in the thread to have an ad... that could be annoying, but for the ad to show up in the last post every time... I see no reason for it not to, particularly on guests. _________________ Jonathan Wagner, AKA Bink
