I think this has been rejected in the past, as in the past we were more concerned with staying in line with phpbb2.

But I think it is time to introduce a feature where "moderated" members posts will only display to admins/mods. Other members will be a notice that the member is on "moderation".

This could be used to deal with people who join just to spam a forum.

When a member is moderated, a link will be show in the post to admins/mods allowing them to release that post, or to take the member off "moderation".

There would be an admin panel option "Set new members to moderated status?".

Got it now.
Only thing I can think of to add is give certain members a "hide" post option where it hides a post and only admin/mod could see it.
But the above should be enough.

As part of this, the following big changes will also occur, which will make the process of managing users much more powerful

For each user, you will be able to set the following restrictions.

Blocked from posting
Blocked from posting new threads
Sending PMs restricted to mods/admins only
Posts moderated. e.g. the post will not appear to members until approved.

A portal will define the rules for a "moderated" member.

By setting a user to be blocked from posting or sending PMs to other than mods/admins, you will in effect ban a member, whilst leaving them able to retreive private material and plead their case to "staff".

Admin can now set these sorts of options for a user and the moderation portal is in place.

What remains is to actually make it all work!

Will this be implemented across the board? Or will it be one of those things we have to mess with html etc?

I sincerely hope this will be across the board.

When a moderated message is posted, I will insert text links at the top of the post allowing mod/admin to click to either approve the post, or to approve the post and take the member off moderation. This will not require template editing.

Note this will be a new optional powers to mods to remove moderation from people.

You have to be kidding, look at the dates!

I am as far as seeing a moderated members post, come up crudely as moderated.

This one will not be released this week, or maybe not even next.

As it stands so far.

Does anyone have any idea how this compares to phpbb3 facilities in this area?

This is not being introduced to compete as such, but I am a little curious.
