Does anyone fancy writing a feature comparison table?

I want to stick up on the site somewhere a comparison of features available in:

phpbb2
myfreeforum
phpbb3

I'd like this to be reasonably unbiased whilst be reasonably succinct as well.

e.g. I could create a list of 40 myfreeforum extras that are not available in standard phpbb2 or phpbb3, but that would hardly be fair. On the other hand you could probably construct a list of a dozen things phpbb3 has that we don't have currently. But such a list would be a list of really quite trivial unimportant things.

I don't know about a list, i will try to make one for you though.

On the other hand the only mod i would really like at this moment in time is the ability to merge topics together rather than just splitting them.

Well merge is a possible hack we could add. It has simply never quite bubbled to the top of the TODO list.

It would be a very nice feature to have as this would mean people don't need to have loads of the same topic all over the place or delete the same topic etc they can simply merge them together keeping there post counts while also keeping there forum looking nice and tidy.

Also this would help out here if you wanted to have a tidy up of old threads and things, saves deleting them lol. Thats if you ever do delete them.

I do note that with the wysiwyg post editor, we add another major feature that is not in phpbb3.

 

Off hand I consider that to be very significant

I could do it, luckily I have access to a slightly modified PHPBB 2 board but I know what mods I added and I have my PHPBB3RC1 Board also with no mods...

Good one, remember I am prepared to put in things we don't have that phpbb3 does have, only rule is that the feature has to be one the same level of worth as the ones already in the list. e.g. for example phpbb3 can have sub-sub-forums, but that is a really lame feature that 99% of board would be far better off not using,

Do you really think that those features are anywhere near as useful as the ones in the list?

 

Note that I have not added Karma/Commenting to the list. Does phpbb3 have them?

Inbuilt template editing is already in the list.

This is proving interesting, as we have 9 features where we are ahead of phpbb3 and so far nothing of great significance where we are behind.
