I do keep telling myself that we have 1000s of generally sensible forum owners on the system, and fun though it might be to nuke some of our members it would send out the message to our good users, that their forums are at the mercy of a tempermental system admin I'd hate to be on a system where I felt that there was any reason to think that I could be chopped for saying the wrong thing, and I know you would to.
I actually got in that situation some time back. I reported a bug in someone system monitoring software that was reporting the system to be up when it was in fact down. The admin took that to be implying that I thought they were rigging the software to lie I think he was rather stressed at the time, and I got a very irrate email along the lines of withdraw the comments or go to hell I responded privately and publically that the bug report was just that a bug report. But frankly I have not felt entirely comfortable on that system since Which is a shame as they gave me years of very good service.

I agree but my point is this if Admin emails people saying your forum appears to be inactive and they reply ummmmm can you tell me what its called and the address please proves the point that it is not being kept and is indeed inactive.
Im not saying Admin should jump in swishing his big axe around by anymeans _________________

Whenever we are in a position which exercises power, then two essential qualities we must cultivate are forebearance and equanimity.
The greater our power is, the greater the necessity for long-suffering and a spirit equally balanced in the face of both pleasure and displeasure. _________________

As I think more about it, we must consider ourselfs stewards or caretakers of the power.
Whenever we make the mistake of identifying with that power, and considering it a reflection of our self, rather than considering ourselves subservient to it, then we are in danger of being corrupted by the power.
George Washington is praised by historians because and the end of his term of service, he retired to private life and did not seek to usurp power tyrannically. He knew that a democratic system could not thrive unless unless leaders were willing to relinquish power at the end of a fixed term of office.
The mind is a faithful servant, but a cruel master. _________________

Sitaram,
Try dealing with some of the idiots I have dealt with in the past and you'd be asking for someone to pass the "Weapons of Idiot Destruction" NOW!!!! _________________

Well the cull has entered the next phase, though I have started on the forums that were totally dead and never got off the ground at all.
They really can have no legitimate complaint. _________________

Indeed they have treated their forums like a new christmas pet, play with it for a while then just cast it aside when they get bored _________________

Oh bugger, sorry admin. When I first set up my forum my partner in crime also set up one, we should really have liased a bit better. We decided to stay with hers and I forgot to contact you and say could you delete the other one. The address is fschat@myfreeforum.org, please feel free to "cull" it. If you need me to e-mail you from the e-mail account I set it up with let me know and I will get on it straight away.
Its a relatively new one so you may think it is still needed and will grow, but it will never get used.
Thanks

The forum cull has ended for now.
Well over 3000 forums have bitten the dust taking us down from over 10,000 forums to 6732.
we will probably begin the warning process again in a couple of weeks. As we have been lenient no doubt quite a few people will feel a little spammed as we will have warned them before and not carried out the deletion. There are now 2000 forums on the inactive mailing list, compared to almost 4000 previously. About half of those were in the last list sent out. _________________
