We plan to introduce via the control panel a range of "opt in" hacks.

This will kick off with digitalpoints free advertising network which can help promote forums.

Eventually this will enable us to introduce hacks that effect templates, as we plan to give you the option to edit templates.

But a lot of restrictions will still apply, so this will not be a hack free for all.

Well your site won't verify until the coop adverts go on your site. So this announcement is a bit premature.

The aim is November 19th.

On the teset server you can now request the coop ad network as a customisation, and set the parameters for the network

Hopefully in the next hour or three that will turn into actually running the network

All seems working

It is sometimes a shame that we have to consider the basic fact that keeping 1000's of forums that are happy with what they have stable, it rather more important than adding bits in

It would be nice to plug this straight in now. In principle it is entirely seamless and no one would notice the slightest outage But we have to be Vogons just in case.

Yep, but remember this does not open the floodgates, until this system is compemented by the user template editing system, it will only be useful for relatively minor hacks.

Ok, Martin(admin),

You told me to discuss the two hacks I wanted on the Support Forum. Here's what I'm requesting:

For an example of what I'm talking about see the bottom of langcafe.net. Would you also be able to customize the very top "Who's Online" stat to say: Currently Online Users:(__Registered Members and __Guests and/or Search Index Spiders ? Any can you also add a Birthday hack, if possible?

Thank you,

David, can you possible start this as two additional threads? Due to the required pace of event, and the fact that most optional hacks are going to depend on us getting the template editor going. A discussion of many hacks in this thread will get lost in the noise. It would also be good if you could find a download for the hacks you want.

The optional hacks system is now seemingly in place and working

Okay at the moment, this is a one hack system but it is a good one if you want to promote your forum, and as ever change has to be managed.

A forum is after all a long term project for all participating. We put in probably close to two improvements a week, even if not all are visible. Plot that over a course of a year and a lot happens
