Just had to post this... since this is a relevant topic.. I won't make another thread.

But I want people to know about this.  I usually don't speak out about things.. but I know that is VERY possible, and quite likely, so I don't doubt it happening.  I want companies to know that we won't stand for it, even if they aren't negotiating things, just THINKING of it.

If this happens, then MFF, and all the people that go through MFF will no longer have a place to go.  This is IMPORTANT!

I had thought that, but it's much too possible, and I have seen a few other sites all discussing it, and some friends that have all heard of it.  I've seen some conspiracies before, but not ones that were all the same like this.

I doubt this would happen. That would be a stupid move on the ISP's side. They would lose tons of money because nobody will want to use the net after it turns to shit.

And if this does actually happen......... F*ck 'em. We can make our own internet. If they think this will reduce the amount of P2P file-sharing, then they are highly mistaken. People will just find bigger and better ways to share files and communicate.

Creating our own internet would be quite difficult... considering major ISP's own the backbones that keep the internet running.  If they were to go down to all non-subscription networks then we'd need smaller companies linking up all over the country, then laying fiberoptic lines across oceans, or getting millions of dollars to connect via satellite... it really would be an EXTREME project, especially at the speeds we see now.

And people would continue to use it, because of how much people use the internet now.. people would whine and complain, but would still be using it.  That's how things work.  I read a story in college that was exactly about this kind of thing.  People would complain and adjust to it, and that's what they bank on.  We need to be vocal before to make sure this never comes about.

Would never happen, its a silly story created by a bunch of students to see how far it goes.

All it would take is one ISP to buck the trend and it falls like a house of cards, and the one that bucks the trend would be very rich indeed, so someone would do it.

Doesn't make sense, and when things don't make sense, they are usually not true.

Even so though, if the ISP's did make the connection like this, with the agreement to all go into it at once, totalitarianism like... and they each secretly had the idea to pull out to get all the business, how much could that throw off everything? the prices could skyrocket dramatically, and stay higher.

Even if this is nothing more than a hoax or an idea among the companies... It's best if the idea is not kept going, it should be smashed.
