The announcements seems to quite quiet in the last week or two, though there have been some new features put in
But all the same I like to keep people appraised of the fact that there is always something going on to improve the system.
In this case there is quite a major work in progress on the nameservers. Most people won't know what these are, but they are the services on the internet that ensures when you type fred.com into your browser, the browser ends up at the right internet address.
On a proper free forums system like myff (as opposed the silly script services) forums may be located on more than one server, with more than one address to deal with, the system must have the means in place to automatically alter records on nameservers. With most domains this is not an issue as addresses rarely change.
In the last week the system here was updated so that when you buy a domain through us, we can maintain the nameserver records for your own domain, making the process rather easier
Having got that far, I realized that nameserver services allowing people to customise their records both for the forums and in general are not exactly in abundance on the web. We use a couple of good ones afraid.org and everydns.net, but there is room and even need for more similar services.
Since we have most of the technology already in place, it therefore makes sense to add the code to make such a service possible.
This service may be a paid one at least on some level. Registrars will often charge for this service and it will cost money to maintain.
