Hi,
Remember I said I see weird email messages in the forum admin email account when some spammers join? I've pasted an example I got today below, with references to my email address replaced with "forum administrator's email address":

Could anyone explain what is going on here?

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at slarti.myfreeforum.org.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<ivahin_bilal_727@mail.ru>:

Giving up on 194.67.23.20.

Thanks Roy - did this a while back and also switched on visual confirmation. Combination of these certainly helped, but starting to see them come through again now. Is constantly deleting spammers a perennial task for forum admin?

Your welcome mate.

Yup it is and the only thing you can do is keep an eye on the suspected spammers perhaps make a category called staff room and make it privet so only staff can see its contents and then make a list of possible spammers so all your staff no who to watch out for, it might help apart from that its ban the IP addresses of those you suspect and hope they get the message.

Please don't ban IP addresses, people ban whole towns that way! most IP addresses are not unique to individuals.

Hiya, I had this problem recently. Changed account registration to ADMIN and that means everyone has to come thro me to have their account activated. if you see someone you don't like/know then don't activate them.

Stopped our spammers...bstards.

sometimes an IP address is unique to an individual, but even on broadband a unique ip is liable to change every few months.

Wow i did'nt realise the IP could change in less a new broadband setup disc was installed or you moved something like that.

Well i will make sure not to ban IP addresses and coz i'm the only person that has access to the admin panel i don't need to worry, thanks for the heads up Admin.

Hi guys iam suffering the same fate as a few of you are also. i have account activation on but sometimes your not sure if a user is legit or not so have to activate tehm anyway (just disable pm's and put them on moderated posts).
I have a group of "children" from another vw forum doing the damndest to kill off my forum at the mo.

I have noticed one of them has got around the word filters also by adding  [*b][/*b]inbetween the letters of his word. i tried to censor the word but to no avail. any help would be greatly appreciated as even the use of wildcards does not work with the [b*][/*b]  (without the *)

Use the moderation portal, and place them all on it.

Simply use the MODERATION portal to place all new users on moderation until they get fed up and stop.

Messing around with filters just make it a game to play and does no good at all.
