Do you think it would be a good idea to make a collection of video tutorials to help people get set up on MFF?
Been doing a bit of experimenting, gonna make a few to help with the stuff I am able to help on....here is the absolute basic one, gonna use this vidtut forum to develop and show people how at the same time.
I know my voice aint great, so if anyone wants to dub over feel free.
Any comments/suggestions/feedback etc are welcome as always.
I think if you chopped out the forum creation bit, and added the logo change, then it would be a fantastic addition to the welcome message on the created forum, an instant tutorial of the core essentials from the point they had already got to.
I really like the creation bit as well, but i'm struggling a bit to think of a home for it. Ideally it would be on:
and we would change that page to accommodate things. But I am not too sure on how to manage the placement as this page does seem to work quite well already. _________________ Family Friendly Shareware | | Web Design/Services | Free Forums forum.myfreeforum.org
Yes I don't think video tutorials of this nature can replace the written word for a majority of areas, just for a select few areas such as you've highlighted.
As to where to put them, I was just gonna shove them on the vidtut forum as I use it to build up the repertoire (also gonna add such as Photoshop tutorials and whatever else I can think of).
Didn't think of you maybe wanting to have somewhere for them on the site, but if you want them, I can let you have better copies than the YouTube versions...
If anyone else wants to knock one up by all means do so, I'll put it on for you (gonna set it up so people have to submit rather than just post it to keep it less cluttered, will have to set the permissions etc for that, but can do that in a tutorial too). _________________
Adobe's video workshop is a fantastic little example of something like this.
I zipped up the two I have done so far to send you last night but they came out at 72mb
Will see if I can get that lowered a bit for you (unless you have some software capable of this?). The best compressor I have found in the past was Bink but I am not sure if people would need to download the codec to view them? _________________
Is the flv format a format you can use? It seems that everyone has a flash player these days due to the success of sites such as YouTube.
On the flv format, at a size of 800x600 @ 150kbs we're looking at 2-4mb (about 1mb per minute) per tutorial and still maintaining good quality (much better than the YouTube quality). _________________
Well I can play what you posted, so I assume that means I can play .flv (told you I know little about video )
2mb-4mb sounds good to me, but does it sound good to other people? 1mb a minute is surely about 1.5mbs e.g. it needs a reasonable broadband connection to stream without delay. _________________ Family Friendly Shareware | | Web Design/Services | Free Forums forum.myfreeforum.org
Did you get chance to try a test page out displaying the flv?
If you can display it that way, fine, then I will make the rest of the tuts...if not, then I will redo the tuts a different way (where the camera follows the mouse thereby giving better resolution).
Let me know which way is best mate _________________
