Top notch hardware for a top notch service
We have often pointed out that hardware is not the main factor in choosing a forums system. What matters more is how heavily loaded the hardware is. The biggest and fastest of servers can be run into the ground if a company overloads it.
But as of September 2007 we can estimate that our servers could run three times as many forums as we actually do without grinding to a halt.
We achieve this by running three quad core servers, each with a 5 disk RAID5 storage system, using a combined total of 40g of ram.
With this sort of power you can be pretty safe in the assumption that no sudden popularity surge of a forum is going to have a serious impact on speed.
