Yes I know where that one is as I have set custom ranks.

As more people are starting to use phpbb3 would it be possible to do an HOWTODOIT for both phpbb2 and phpbb3 or how are we suppossed to learn to do these things.

As when I click on custom profile fields on phpbb3 I then have to add an option of what it is.

There is a phpbb3 howtodoit site. Did you look for the guide on there?

The HTDI site has a link on the front page for phpbb3.  Also if you look through a karma thread in the PHPBB3 forum you should be able to get a good idea, because it was discussed how to add Karma on there.

www.smartrepair.myfreeforum.org

i have tried to follow this guide http://howtodoit.myfreeforum.org/...component=content&topicid=628

This Karma seems to be a complete mind field especially for a novice like myself. I have followed the instructions above however have hit a snag. This is the bit i get stuck at..............Go to your forum's Administration Panel -----   2. General --- Profile Fields

6a.Now add KARMA And click Add Custom Profile Field

You will now see this screen how to do it

Well I dont get the field type options so KARMA does not work on my forum properly and I'm getting this message.

Quote:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Unknown column 'pf_KARMA_LAST' in 'field list' [1054]

SQL

INSERT INTO ph3bb76429_profile_fields_data (user_id,pf_KARMA_LAST ) VALUES(169,'5') ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE pf_karma_last='5'

FILE: includes/myff_functions.php
LINE: 407
CALL: dbal_mysql->sql_query()

FILE: addrating.php
LINE: 157
CALL: set_profile_field()

Any help would be appreciated. Personally I wouldn't bother but it has been requested by some members.

thanks in advance

Paul

Excuse my ignorance but I thought it was automatic and you just filled out the type, default maximum characters etc

obviously it's not, so can I ask how you do it

thanks

You are looking at the phpbb2 guide, phpbb3 is slightly different but you can add custom profile fields in the admin panel and do need to add one named KARMA.

I have done this however it never stays as capital letters and I'm not sure if I should be selecting numbers, single text field or text area etc

I have tried it a few time but i never get the option of "field type options"

KARMA is numeric, actually the error complains that the KARMA_LAST profile field is missing so KARMA_LAST must be added as well. The case does not matter.

Hi Guys,

http://www.avforums.com/forums/ca.../1220377-double-xp-2-4-5-4-a.html

is available on the foums? i like the idea of karma but need it to be based on the reply rather than the user itself?...

sure thing, sorry!

Basically you have 2 scores of THANKS (thanks you've 'given' and thanks you've 'got')

When you see a post that was really helpful to you (and perhaps others?) you can 'thank' it. when YOU do this you get a score added to your 'GIVEN' section.

if YOU post something that someone else finds interesting then it goes under your 'GOT' tally....

if lots of people thank your post then it shows in the footer of the post as your username. it can go really out of control i guess if a million people decided to thank the post as then the post size would physically increase quite a lot but i've never really seen this happen to a ridiculous extent...

hope i've made it a bit more clearer for you to understand. is it something that can be added (i'm pretty sure its not an active feature) but it seems popular on some other forums and i'd love to have this on my forum for people to have a score at the end of it (so you can see who contributes most to the forum without just giving that user a one off rating score)

Best Wishes

Dave
