We have a problem though, deleting posts is actually very complicated in phpbb2.

Though some fool in one hack thinks it can be done with a one line database statement

I have found one hack that does do it properly and from which I could plagurise the code, all 200 or more lines of it, which is needed for the job to be done right.

However the last bug fix to that code was in August! I want a greater confidence level than that before installing code that could wreck database integrity.

Comming back to this, I wanted to solve the problem with word censors - the guy who is spamming is quite stupid, so there are the same links all the time or changed not very frequently, so I figured if I censor some of the words from the links it would make the links incorrect and useless. Instead the text of the links change but the links are stil valid to the original site where there is some malware waiting for the victims.
Is there any other way to achieve what I wanted with word censors?

not really as they are about words and not links.

Hiya, following your comments as our forum has now been spammed with porn weblinks.

I have done the code and email confirm for registration, and starting banning IP addresses.

How/Can I stop postings that include weblinks ?

The allow HTTP box on the admin control panel says NO, so I am confused.
Any other help appreciated.
cheers
Karl

banning IPs is not recommended.

The easiest approach is simply to ban accounts and emails.

Plus at the weekend more spambot prevention is being installed for all forums.

Quote:
Ban Control
Here you can control the banning of users. You can achieve this by banning either or both of a specific user or an individual or range of IP addresses or hostnames. These methods prevent a user from even reaching the index page of your board. To prevent a user from registering under a different username you can also specify a banned email address. Please note that banning an email address alone will not prevent that user from being able to log on or post to your board. You should use one of the first two methods to achieve this.

not recommened ? this is from admin control panel...?

Banning emails and accounts is OK, but they are from different peeps / bots every time.

thanks for your replies anyway.
This has only just (last 2 days) startd happening so I it is all to do with the in-coming-upgrades.

cheers

Hiya, is there anyway I can set the registration process to send me an email to accept or decline a new registeration ?

Or block the site for registration by users, and make it by admin only ???

cheers

Karl.

I think that happens with the Admin option on registration in admin/configuration.

go to the admin panel.

There is a link for general configuration.

You can choose whether users can activate themselves(via email), none, or admin activation.

This has started happening to our forum too over the last few days. New users setting up on the forum with address "The USA", comments re viagra etc, and links to dubious websites in the user profile.

So far been nipping them in the bud by banning user names as they occur and then deleting them, and have now set the forum so new members need positively approving before they become active.

Is this a recent phenomena, we've been running the forum for over a year and this has just started to become a problem?

Also, noticed some strange email failure notifications being generated when these users join. Anyone else spotted this?
