If anyone wants any custom ranks etc please let me know a few things via PM or in a thread... PM me if you put it into a thread as I don't always check the forums daily.
Because all forums are on different templates etc etc I need to know your colour schemes for images and text and if you need transparent gifs or solid and borered images.
A number of icons i.e. 4, 5 or 6 plus any others you want or need (MOD, ADMIN, SPAMMER, BANNED etc etc) would be very helpful. As I don't look at your forums, it would mean me joining too many, I need this info from you.
If, like Dave, you have a graphic, please send me the link to it or the graphic itself as this helps me immensely.
I thank you... _________________

Your images are 80 x 12 px at 72 dpi
Mine are 111 x 31 px at 72 dpi
Mine will comfortably fit 6 readable icons but yours are, in my opinion, too small to see. What are they? They look like the saxes I did earlier but a LOT smaller.
I would make the canvas bigger, the 31 Px is enough to fit a line of text under and maintain a compact space but 80 px width is very small.
I also like to use transparency but white is better if you can use it due to the contrast and known background qualities.
If you are using the saxes I used, you'd be better off finding the origional bigger image I used, I can get you the link if you need it) as I optimised the sax rank Imgs for web before saving them.
Hope this helps; if not I can clarify any thing you need clearing up. _________________

Here is the link to the sax:
http://www.freeclipartnow.com/clipart/music26.gif
The obvious thing to note is that as the image gets smaller it becomes harder to see and if you can put a solid background behind it, or a bordered edge, then do so. If you do big and hate small, I'd stick with the big, it is easier
I always optimse for web because a lot of my users are older and don't have broadband etc. It is good manners to optimise because it speeds up the user's page loading and enhances their enjoyment. _________________

This is an important point, we try to avoid editing supplied logos for the forums, but they often come in way too large and we have to convert to jpg, which does degrade the image a bit.
A big logo might look pretty, but if people leave the forum before it is even loaded, as they are on dialup and they can't be bothered to wait, then it does no one any favours. _________________

The resolution is 74 dpi... I think you mean the clarity. When optimising for web you need to use an application designed to do this (Fireworks or Imageready) but not push them too far that they become blurred. With a small image, you are not going to get clarity, that is why I use the sizes I use as I know they work in most screen resolutions. At 12pixels high, you are not, no matter what you do, goiong to get clarity _________________

Your sig pic is 33kb
This one is a lot less and will load in a 56k browser in a second because it is optimised for web... yours takes considerably longer
This one is 4kb
can you spot any big differences?
I used to turn off avatars and sig from my view in forums when on a 56k because the pages took eternity to load, if the page had images on as well I used to leave the page and not bother.
This is your sig picture but terribly over optimised
This is the rank I did with the saxes... reduced, optimsed and transparent
oh and I also turned them into greyscale and adjusted the levels _________________

This is what I mean about the white background, it means that I control the background and don't rely on the tansparency too much
It also means that it will work on any background colour _________________
