Hi , we have a forum http://www.freeforums.in/phpbb/index.php?mforum=savevm and the head admin has left.
We do not have any of her log in details. Is it possible to import our forum over to you guys without having these details? We have other admins, but they don't have full access as the forum creator.

even so, database retrieval into something workable to allow an easy database install on another host or personal hosting still requires the same process, so I don't see the price being any different regardless the size of the forum.

As you are on phpbb3, then create phpbb3. The general principles of the thread apply though.

If you do buy a forum export to leave the system, you are going to need some basic expertise with mysql databases, and preferably have a tool like phpmyadmin on your system.

The procedure we recommend is.

1) Create a working blank phpbb2 forum, with the table prefix phpbb_ (this is the default)
done

2) Make a copy of the export file, removing the table defintions and data for the tables phpbb_themes, phpbb_themes_name. These tables contain stuff that will come a cropper if you have installed myfreeforum templates.

can you just clarify by the word export file you mean sql dump ? removing the table definitions you mean the local host name database name and so on ?? and by removing you mean delete ?

3)Also elminate phpbb_config from the export file. But take a note of a few entries here like record_online and board_startdate. You may want to edit these values in later with phpmyadmin.
i didnt receive the phpbb-config file not that i have seen, where is this within the email i recieved.

thanks admin

im not a complete novice at this but just dont understand the wording used and names for things. just need it all simplified for a dumb ass, also you only talk of one export file what about all the others i received , avatars, images, templates where do these fit into it all ?

again thanks for the support and your patients

The instructions all refer to the sql dump file that contain tables such as "phpbb_config".

The phpbb_config table along with those tables relating to themes/styles and also in phpbb3 the "modules" table are all going to need to be different in your own version of phpbb3.

As such they need to be removed from the sql that you import.

Avatars and templates files need to be restored to the correct place in the phpbb3 file structures. e.g. under "styles" for the templates, and to the avatar path specified in phpbb_config for the avatars.

if im honest i struggled to suss out where to find the bits to remove so i just messed about with it. eventually i got it to work but......

i did get this error or warning message in phpmyadmin after importing.
Code:

/*1401 sel sql_mode-@old_sql_mode*/

#1231 variable 'sql mode' cant be set to the value "null"

i took that from a poor screen shot so the odd digit might be incorrect but i hope it gives a good enough idea

the forum is working fine no problems

i was just concerned not knowing if the above error / warning could be severe if not now but at a later date. could this be because i hadnt removed the parts in the guide even though every thin running good

That sounds minor. sql mode does not need setting at all. So it failing to set is a good thing.
