ok,

We are now viewable in posts. Actually this was only about half a dozen lines of code, but not so easy figuring the RIGHT 5 lines of code

I did take a look at the available extended profile hack here, as quite how you put stuff into the arrays that go into the phpbb templates is not the easiest of areas. That hack require dozens of lines of code for the same task

Now i'm sure we will increase the line count, as I know some functionality is still missing, but this reaffirms why we have taken our time on this hack. We don't want to add acres of code changing core phpbb2 files. Hence the available hack was unsuitable and we needed to spend time on our own approach.

Buttons linked to a url are now in there, so you might have:

[SEARCHGOOGLE]
title=Search Google For
image=searchgoogle.gif
url=http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q={SEARCHGOOGLE}&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

and if someone has entered this part of their profile a button will appear

One note at this point. In the actual profile editing I am allowing the macro {XPROFILE} which will be substituted with all the automatically generated new profile fields to have the labour of you having to put them all in.

But when it comes to their display in posts (and possibly the visible user profile) I am inclined to make people do the actual work, as there is no logically consistent place to put all of the fields. You really have to think this part out yourself.

I think we have the alpha version complete.

Will probably document it tomorrow and release it Saturday.

Well some regression tests have failed this morning. corrections have been made but I still classify it as not quite ready for an alpha release

The slots of this sort of thing to be released are Saturday and Sunday mornings as this is the quietist time. Since I actually do have some things to do with the weekend aside from coding forums, I think this means a delay until next Saturday
It's a bit of a pain, but you have to keep in perspective that this is going to be a nice little addition, but keeping the core forums working right is far more important.

Admin, I'd rather keep the forums running and have this later than have this later and not have a forum ;-)

Hopefully moving forward, I have added custom profiles to the forum databases and the forums management code. This means you can now actually see the dialog, and that we can verify that nothing is amiss in the live forums after this phase of the upgrade.

New forums created as of now, also have links to the howtodoit forum, and a reminder that "admin" is the user name for admins of new forums Wink

Whilst I am afraid none of this gives you the user, the feature you want as yet, though you can type in your custom profile definitions, it does get over 50% of the work and risk of the upgrade done.

So it does make it pretty certain that we can finish the job Saturday, or just possibly sooner.

Multiline fields are now part of the custom profile hack

But after some serious thought I think i'll nail things to the mast at least for now!

With the exception of the user signature which comes in for all sorts of special treatment because of the security issues involved. No standard profile field allows bbcode or html. For the time being at least niether will the custom profile fields. This is a small annoyance. But preferable to trying to get any wrinkles out of the new system whilst also having to sweat blood on security issues.

Minor point of interest I think i have found and fixed a phbpp bug, one that exists on these forums as well as another forum patched to 2.20. No sign of a fix in vanilla phpbb either for that matter.

I was having a right headache, I was regression testing the custom profile hack to see what happens when errors occur, as that is just as important as what happens when people enter stuff correctly, and all of a sudden a signature was show wrongly

Spend ages in my configuration managment system to see how I might of broken things before realising the bug is there everywhere

So I can give anyone a quick title Wink

then in viewtopic_body.tpl I just stuck {XRANK},/b>
