S is for spammers Dont allow spammers on your site, let them know whose in control. Leaving spam posts which are like 'cool' 'ok' 'lol' 'ye' can get your forum suspending for simply being a spamming forum. A moderator or admin can remove posts like this. _________________ Is Your Forum Active? Earn £5/month for having 3 adverts on your website/forum - Not much but its something...

i can agree to all of that, but its getting memebers thats hard. i could make a thread on here saying to join my forum and i doubt anyone would join but just out of curiosity i might do that _________________ Virtual Gaming

The biggest most common mistake by all new admin of forums they think
they open their doors and the members will flood in.

Ok now lets take it your forum is a shop in a huge city, you do a little work then open your doors to a near bare shop,, now what

well ok a few passer bys might have a little look but will these be come customers?

Now lets take it you have an idea of a shop you advertise first of the opening day, you pack your shop with things worth looking at then do a grand opening and then see the difference.

The second biggest mistake is for admin`s to open a near empty forum then moan no one is joining , when get told it is because you have no post they say "well its not up to me as soon as members join they will post".

Not only is that extremely wrong it also very ignorant of the admin`s, do the work yourself make at least 50 -100 worth while posts then open it.

When i opened HOWTODOIT i made at least 100 useful posts before i opened it. And within a few days it was up to 300 posts all done by me now since September the index page has had hits of over 38900. Ok its a niche forum but that's just the best way to do it.

All too true, my own niche forum has yet to be advertised despite being around since last June, the reason being I have only got 75 odd topics created. That is not yet enough in my view to try and make it turn into an active forum. It won't end up purged off the system as under our purging rules having made that level of effort it would have to be unvisited by a member for over a year to be removed, and in time I hope to get enough on there to launch it. _________________ Family Friendly Shareware \| \| Web Design/Services \| Free Forums forum.myfreeforum.org

That would be up to Symon if you want to take his first post, other authors would need to be asked as well, you can use mine no problem. i'm taking my time on my new forum. ok its not 'desirable' in looks but thats how ive made it. i want like minded people to share points of view with, not the 'oooh you're forum looks ace' gang.

as i am a well respected member of last.fm, i have over a hundred friends from the world over to invite to my forum but have not advertised it to them yet. ive only invited a few people so far and 25% are family

the time will come but i want quality, not mass quantity.
