Just think of a NAS as a very big, very reliable disk. Somewhere where we can store lots and lots of backups.

Well just paid for the adfree for another year.

We noticed this morning when the ads came back that they are slowing the loading of the pages down as it loads the ad first, not good.

So someone get them stopped now please    last year they stopped right away as soon as i paid

So as i said here for another year probably, whats the story on the integrated chat room, anything likely to happen on that soon?

As much as this is probably going to be a "no", it never hurts to ask...

We were wondering if there was some sort of deal where we could have only certain ads removed for a lesser price.

Honestly, if you think about the amount of money ad revinue brings in compared to how much someone paying for a years worth of ad free gets you, it cant be an even amount, and we as a forum actually do not mind most of the ads and consider them as a way to support you for all your hard work.

The one ad we do mind is the one on the last post of each thread. People hate that one, lol. So we were wondering if there was a deal we could make just to remove just that 1 ad?

It is a no, and there are two basic reasons for that.

1) I like simple. Ads or ad free is simple.
2) People could easily feel short changed. What happens if people pay for one particular ad to be removed and then we rearrange the adverts and remove or lessen the impact of that advert?

We do not track advertising income per forum to have much of a clue on whether we gain or lose by people paying for ad free. I am happier not knowing. I can guess that when some very large forums have gone ad free we lose, but again it keeps it simple not to have tiers.
I feel that especially since we reduced the prices, the ad free option is very affordable and if you go that routine and seriously do not mind a few adverts it is free and simple to set up your own google advertising.

We really don't really need peoples donations currently. I should take the server appeal down to be honest, but it does showcase the portal involved.

The myff forums have for the last 9 months, since we did change the advertising system ticked along at a level
where they are no longer being subsidised by MarsJupiter LTD (e.g. the main company).

Ironically at the same time MarsJupiter LTD is in the red overall for the first time ever   but that is cash flow as the result of us spending £30,000 odd on servers since last October.

PostPosted: Thu Nov 11, 2010 12:18 pm    Post subject: Does ad-free get rid of the infolinking Reply with quote

Hi there, I am a moderator on http://craftythreadsnyarns.myfreeforum.org/index.php  We are just a small group of crafters who love our forum, but none of us is very technically minded!

Could you tell me, if we paid for the ad-free version of the forum whether it would get rid of these new infolinks (I think that's what they're called, the double underlining thing that has started in the last couple of days?) We generally quite like the adverts (always good to hear of yarn sales somewhere) but this new thing has become a bit intrusive.

I am canvassing opinions on the forum on whether to go ad-free, but this is a question most are asking. In other words we'd only do it if this was got rid of as part of the deal.

Thank you very much for your time

(and oooops on my user name - Should have been Auntie Noo, but I mis-typed - )

Advert free does what it says on the box.

But before leaping, the new info links may not be here to stay, and will be tuned to be nicer if they do stay.

But as I say if you go advert free you will get rid of them, ad free means ad free.
