Seems the reason why one of the downloaded templates did not work and looked like prosilver is that the files are the prosilver files .e.g. a screw up at the template download site.

At least that does explain things.

Another of the little details, both a default phpbb2 and phpbb3 installation sets "override user style" as off.

That confuses a lot of people and we make our default "on" for phpbb2, the same will apply to phpbb3. I have fixed this one, but I bet there are some other poor defaults that I have missed so far.

Well in order to make for a quick process tomorrow I am now doing what is safe to do by way of preparing the client, and also tidying up the CVS version control system.

Well the release has occurred

I guess the next big task is to start the upgrade code, this is a challenge as we need to take the existing upgrade scripts and enhance them, so that all the myff stuff goes across and some conversions such as our XPROFILE fields get done as well.

It has been quite tempting to allow as a first step the new phpbb3 forums to be able to import existing myff forums, but the trouble there is that when a proper upgrade is allowed we would be left with a lot of large but possibly dead forums.

I think the upgrade button should only be available to the original head admin of a forum, similar to how the admin logs are only available to the head admin of a forum.

With a few forums in place, some more of the "uber" admin stuff is coming along, things like making sure that when a forum is deleted  all assorted cache files etc are removed.

Also the the all important detection of "dead" forums.

I guess we may be facing a chicken and egg problem on going from ALPHA to BETA, we really need some active forums really testing things out to get the the BETA point and beyond, but people may be reluctant to risk things at the ALPHA stage.

would it be an idea for you to open a support/testing forum where you could document/blog the phpbb3 progress and we could interact with feeback... it'd be a good testing place too ?

I am still figuring out what to do in this regard.

One of the strengths of myff is the fact that those running it are also using it.

But with the advent of two systems, that threatens to break down

However it can be argued that the phpbb2 based system is nearing the limits of what can be done, the only things that can sensibly be added are new portals and there is a high degree of compatibility between the portal code.

In fact all new portals can probably be written to be fully compatible.

Hence what probably makes sense is for the support forum to go phpbb3 as soon as practically possible.

Then we will be in at the bleeding edge as users.

Meanwhile any forum set up now by us on phpbb3 would be short lived, and there would be no incentive for us to be actually adding things to it, hence we would not really be good test users.

Still early days of course, but thus far we have 9 forums created, but not real posting going on, and whilst I have noticed one forum is not looking very well no bug reports   To progress this we are going to need real activity and people reporting what they are finding.

Wish I could help out here, but it makes sense for an established forum to wait untill the upgrade becomes an option - catch 22

Well I can't help but agree there, I think this is going to be a little painful in that regard.

All we can do is plow on with the upgrade process, and possibly in a few days risk raising the status through beta to release and face any support consequences. I think by then we will be reasonably confident that any issues are not fatal to a forums posts.

Logically that should be the case, as all the code changes are about web pages/portals and templates. The vast majority of the code is out of the box phpbb3.

I've created two phpbb3 forums here now and they both have gone/been lost ?

http://virtualdam.myfabforum.org and http://vdf.myfabforum.org ... all I get from both these url's is the TOS page ...

I also made a third (repeat of virtualdam one but with a typo - missing "r") http://vitualdam.myfabforum.org/ and that is still there...?

EDIT: it would seem that only the first url is not working this morning...

is it happening elsewhere that it seems unstable in the respect of the TOS being shown one time and the forum being shown the next ?

Those forums all seem to show fine to me

I wonder a little if this is some issue with slow DNS propagation, that might still effect a few people.

I have updated the T&C page to mention right at the top if you are seeing the phpbb3 T&C.

I'd suspect you are not and that the fact that the IP address was only set Thursday or Friday is having an effect.

ok, well... if anybody wants to post on and test one of those; I would offer up http://vdf.myfabforum.org/ for the purposes... I have set it to be user activated accounts and will happily liaise with members while playing around with the settings etc...

just an idea/offer
