I am processing a request to allow sig blocking which will be part of the users admin profile, but whilst I am in the area I may as well add the RESTRICTUSER portal which has been an idea for some time.

Its first field would be "Allow signature post threshold" which would block sigs until a user has posted a certain number of times.

Can anyone think of anything else?

To combat the ad bots why not do the same for www. link ?  so their www. link only shows after a certain amount of post or admins allows.

We can make the admin flag for blocking sigs also block www links in the profile.

I can't make this a separate flag, as I'm out of bits

As the general rule then we could have thresholds for displaying:

1) Links in posts.
2) Sigs
3) profile www page

whilst I think there is every argument that these would never need to be different, it does seem daft not to allow differents settings?

Already mentioned above.

I am thinking of simply adding these features to the moderation portal, as they are quite similar in concepts, and we already have a lot of portals.

For the moderation portal, don't you have to manually select which users to moderate and unmoderate? If that's the case, it would be much easier to have it set for all users, and they can display fields such as signatures and www. links once they have made a certain required amount of posts.

The moderation portal has policies for members that are moderated, it could be logically extended to add general thresholds, it is all a form of moderation after all.

This seems about ready now. May muse a day or two more before installing it live though. It is not like this one is urgent.

I have made link removal have options:

1) Remove link and any associated link text
2) Remove link and link text if it is an address
3) Remove link only

option one would be good for a child friendly forum, since it will remove more spam nastyness.
option two, is for if you are determined that a link should not be publicized at all, and is the default.
option three, is for if all you care about is stopping link spammers who are mainly posting to get links to their sites.

Think i understand what each one does.

Quote:
1) Remove link and any associated link text
Hello visit my site Click Here - would become - Hello visit my site

2) Remove link and link text if it is an address
Hello visit my site Click Here - would become - Hello visit my site Click Here
or
Hello visit my site http://www.test.com - would become - Hello visit my site

3) Remove link only
Hello visit my site Click Here - would become - Hello visit my site Click Here
or
Hello visit my site http://www.test.com - would make the url appear but be unclickable

Is that right?

Not exactly, as you can specify text that will appear when a link is nobbled. So people can see it has happened.

Been pushing a bit on the phpbb3 front and I'm a bit in the middle of things.

I may try for Sunday morning though.

I put a limit of people needing 3 posts before links work. The thing is, it gives the "Users are not allowed to post clickable links when they first join" message even though I posted a link with my admin account. (I only have two posts because it's a new forum). Same thing is happening with PMs. I tried to PM myself/an alternate account and it said I couldn't.

I looked everywhere for a button exempt the admin from those restrictions, but nothing I did worked. So, I'm guessing that's not a feature, which means I'm requesting the ability to exempt users from those restrictions be put in.

My forum is http://austinlife.myfreeforum.org/index.php
I don't think I need to post it, and I'd rather wait until it's ready before I mention it anywhere, but the posting check list says to give the link.
-----

One other thing I would like is the ability to restrict users to post links/PMs by how many days they've been a member, in addition to how many posts they make. A spammer could easily make a dozen fake posts to get past the restriction, but it could be an inconvenience for real members to have to make tons of posts before being allowed to use those features. By the time a spammer has had an account for a few days the nature of their posts should be obvious, allowing them to be detected/deleted before their links work, while only minorly inconveniencing members. So, that's my second request.
