Zaphod?

What is "zaphod"?

For example, http://forum.zaphod.myfreeforum.org/ is the same as http://forum.myfreeforum.org/.

Its the name of a server. When the forums got changed from one server to the newest server, zaphod appeared in the name when the ask jeeves bot crawled it.
Their are three or two servers
Zaphod
Ford
and
Slarti.
I can't remember which one got removed.
I believe Slarti is named after admin's daughter.

A bit muddled there!

We have three servers slarti, zaphod and ford.

We did have a server call amipest named after a nickname of my daughter.

The server names can be used in forum paths to deal with forums moving between servers.

e.g. if forum.myfreeforum.org is on slarti it might have an ip address of 1.1.1.1, if we move it to zaphod it will need a new ip address 2.2.2.2. We will assign it a new address but that address takes time to be seen on the net. So if people were to try and look at forum.myfreeforum.org they would try and see it on the old server. To avoid this when they look at the old server they would be redirected to forum.zaphod.myfreeforum.org. All zaphod address are already known to be 2.2.2.2 and hence they end up on the right forum, but with "zaphod" appearing in the address. Once the new address has propagated "zaphod" will no longer show up.
This is an effective method of keeping peoples forums working whilst we move forums around to help with load balancing between servers.
