widening my forum?

PLEASE ENTER THE FOLLOWING>>>> http://inmorriswetrust.myfastforum.org/forum9.php

Now ask your question in clear English without "txt" speak>>>>

Can you tell me how I can widen my forum so it fills the whole screen please?
myff admin

This would probably come down to playing with html tables in overall_header.tpl

But you do need to know html to do this, there is simply no instant answer.
JesusChristFollowship

Well, I've been trying there for the past few hours but no success for me.

I would need to either make the width of the whole wrapper 100% or align it to the left, but preferably the 100% option.

I've also search this forum here for answers

I have just started a new forum and am using phpbb2 with Ms Simplicity template.
(http://jesuschristfollowship.myfastforum.org)

A little help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Nick(NR)

fills the page for me, I assume you've sorted this?
JesusChristFollowship

O good for you :-)
I'm still battling with it......
Is there any info I may have omited to give here?
JesusChristFollowship

I have a 10" screen on my netbook, so my screen is tiny
Still, the forum itself is centered and there's lots of gap between the forum main frame and the end of the screen both on the right and on the left.

If it was just a stand alone forum, I guess it would be great, or not, but I have embedded it within an iframe on my website and it needs scrolling horizontally, which is not too good for those who are going to come around

Here is what I have tried to play with on the overall_header file:

Code:
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->
<table width="850" height="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center">
  <tr>
    <td width="67" background="templates/myfs_jesuschristfollowship2/images/fade_left.jpg"><img src="templates/myfs_jesuschristfollowship2/images/spacer.gif" height="50" width="67"></td>
    <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="templates/myfs_jesuschristfollowship2/images/banner.jpg" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}"/></a><br>
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->

I've tried to change the 850 to 100% and also the center align to left align, and some other functions on that page

Thank you for guiding me through that maze of codes
Zudane

The problem is that you cannot always guarantee it will fill an iframe the same as it will the full page, if there is an image stretching the width then it basically needs to be that large.

Can you give a link to the page that has the iframe so it can be seen in action?
Nick(NR)

Well height="100%" or height: 100%; wont work at least not without in depth css hack jobs, which to say the least are not fun figuring out.

So it leaves me wonder what browser your using and if you have and zoom feature set, because I know opera had a nasty zoom tool, that did it by choice until you turned it off, that was changed upon install. apart from that, there may be a table that isn't closed, but I'm not seeing that error come up, there is also one last thing that is a last resort, press the ctrl key, either of them it doesn't matter and use the scroll wheel of your mouse, you should be able to increase text size on the site that way.
JesusChristFollowship

Thank you Zudane
here it is.
I will only keep it there just for a few days:

Nick, thank you for helping.
I use Firefox.
I think I know what you are saying, but however, i can see that there is some programming between the side of the forum and the side of the page, because it is patly coloured, not blank.
there is what I guess what seem to be background, which usualy is BEHIND the frame.
So how come the frame does not widen (I didn't mean heighten) to the width of the page to cover up the background?
The subsilver template that comes as standard in set up is 100% wide, and it works perfectly inside the iframe, but MS Simplicity doesn't seem to.

Please forgive me if I have not been able to describe anything clearly.
Nick(NR)

You know why I wasn't able to answer in the manner I'd normally like to, is because you added onto an existing post, you really should've created your own topic, due to using a different template, but one to remember none the less, anywho onto ze problem now I'm looking at the right forum

Overall_Header.tpl

Find:
Code:
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->
<table width="850" height="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center">
  <tr>
    <td width="67" background="templates/MSSimplicity/images/fade_left.jpg"><img src="templates/MSSimplicity/images/spacer.gif" height="50" width="67"></td>
    <td><a href="index.php"><img src="templates/MSSimplicity/images/banner.jpg" border="0" alt="The Jesus Christ Followship Community Forum Forum Index"/></a><br>
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->

Replace With:
Code:
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->
<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center">
  <tr>
    <td width="10%" background="templates/MSSimplicity/images/fade_left.jpg"><img src="templates/MSSimplicity/images/spacer.gif" height="50" width="67"></td>
    <td width="80%"><a href="index.php"><img src="templates/MSSimplicity/images/banner.jpg" border="0" alt="The Jesus Christ Followship Community Forum Forum Index"/></a><br>
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->

Overall_Footer.tpl

Find:
Code:
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->
   </td>
    <td width="67" background="templates/MSSimplicity/images/fade_right.jpg top right repeat-y"><img src="templates/MSSimplicity/images/spacer.gif" height="50" width="67"></td>
  </tr>
</table>
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->

Replace With:
Code:
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->
   </td>
    <td width="10%" background="templates/MSSimplicity/images/fade_right.jpg top left repeat-y"><img src="templates/MSSimplicity/images/spacer.gif" height="50" width="67"></td>
  </tr>
</table>
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->

I hope that solves your thin width issue, I've even tweaked the side fades to stick to the sides of the forum, let me know if something in there is broken
JesusChristFollowship

Wow!!!!
Nike you're awesome!
Thank you so very much.
I had no idea there was *2* places to change!

That's amazin :-)
I'll try that as soon as I return from work tonight.

Sorry about the confusion
... i was searching for so long that when I saw this thread I kinda jumped in
.... sorry.....  :-)

THANKS AGAIN
JesusChristFollowship

Thank you again Nick (not Nike   )

This is how I have transformed the frames:

on overall header
Code:
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->
<table width="98%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center">
  <tr>
    <td width="2%"</td>
    <td width="98%"><a href="index.php"><img src="templates/MSSimplicity/images/banner.jpg" border="0" alt="The Jesus Christ Followship Community Forum Forum Index"/></a><br>
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->

and overall footer
Code:
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->
   </td>
    <td width="2%"</td>
  </tr>
</table>
<!-- Code for 3 tables -->

As you can see I got rid of the fade jpg altoguether, because although it looked great on the main browser frame, the pictures took too much space on the iframe.
Now, it looks just perfect for me, thank to your help and guidance

Just a little snag tho.
It seem that one of the frame is stuck to the size of the header picture (/banner.jpg)......    I can notice the difference when I change the width size of my browser.

Is there some guidance you would be willing to offer please?

Many thank again for your help.
JesusChristFollowship

ooops    I've got it!

Its the background.jpg ......... not associated with the banner at all
Gonna try to have fun looking for it

Thank you all for your help!
Nick(NR)
