I searched for and read everything I could find on the subject of video on the phpbb3 threads/forums. Maybe I missed it. If so, sorry, but I tried to find the answer on my own.

Okay, I'm beta testing a conversion to PHPBB3 and the only thing that is holding me back is that I will apparently need to lose the wysiwyg/New Style Posting Panel

I am willing to live with that, but videos don't seem to work on my temporary forum, but they do on other's people's forums.

I thought that it was a phpbb3 thing, but I visited (another members forum), and not only does he have a Video button, but video works on his forum.

For example, I created a post with

Usually just typing simple words into the search at the top helps.

Video comes up with this as about #5: http://forum.myfreeforum.org/about16777.html

The title is PhpBB3: New video bbcode so it's not hard to miss.

I had a feeling that I missed it.

I guess when you spend 3 days working on a new website and reading all kinds of stuff on the forums on the subject, you feel like you read it all.

I guess there is nothing to prevent me from making the switch to phpbb3 now. Hopefully somebody will come up with a wysiwyg/New Style Posting Panel for phpbb3 eventually.

Remember though that phpbb3 is a work in progress from the developers, hence just because an unofficial hack may come along it does not mean we will use it. For example there have been loads of hacks around for "quick reply" but we have not put one it. A right decision as the next official release will have an official "quick reply".

I still see few benefits in phpbb3 over our phpbb2.

Thanks for the advice. Should I wait until phpbb3 is upgraded, or will I still receive all the upgrades if I make the switch now?

You will get the changes as they happen. But phpbb3 is still a more complex forum to run. Phpbb2 is still the recommend forum type here.

PHPBB2 is easier and simpler, which means less work goes into getting it to run how you want.

PHPBB3 is much more complex, which I prefer. If you know what you're doing or are willing to learn you can do more with PHPBB3, but it really can be a LOT more work.

People run forums for different reasons.

If you WANT the technical challenge then phpBB3 may be for you.

If you want to concentrate on running a forum then you can should be on phpbb2.

I run three forums myself, both of those that have a user base are phpbb2.

Do we know when the next release of phpbb3 is due, as before I would make the move both 'Quick Reply' and '[video]' would need to be working ?

last I have heard, it still will be a few months out, at least. They are on RC2, and I believe there is still more work to be done before they reach a stable release.

Could be wrong, but I thought that's what I remember seeing... they don't tend to give many estimates on release times.
