Too many admins

http://thenewotforum.myfreeforum.org/index.php

Thanks for the help that I've found by searching so far.   This one I haven't found.

We recently switched and I am having a problem with people being listed as admins, and having admin privileges that are not admins and in the admin panel are not listed as having these privileges.

I myself am not listed as an admin, but do  have admin privileges even though I shouldn't and nothing that I can find in the admin control panel is wrong.   I am a moderator.

Additionally, we have at least one user that is listed as an admin (when you click on admin at the bottom of the page) and can get into the admin control panel and change things, but has none of these permissions.

I've reset permissions and that hasn't helped and I've also cleared the forum cache.

Thank you for any ideas you can give me.

I'm going to add a couple of screenshots as the boss disabled that account.   I was hoping to hold it until we had a solution, but we can also use me as the guinnea pig.

Here you go:

In this picture, Lou is the ordinary user with admin privileges.   Also Atoz is as he should be and editor is me.

And in this picture:

You will see that both Lou and I (Lord of the Norge) have successfully logged in as admin, even though neither of us should have those privileges.

Notice in the first picture, that Lord of the Norge was not listed as admin.

I hope these help.

There are an awful lot of permissions to check in phpbb3. Try looking at groups and whether any groups have admin powers,

You may also want to look and even ask here:

We have not made any changes to the permissions side of phpbb3, since it is so complex anyway we would not want to confuse matters even more!

Alright thanks.   I'll check into that.

I know what you mean by the permissions.   Our guests weren't allowed to view the board and I looked everywhere but couldn't find it.   Thanks to this board (I've read every thread), I found it.

I was able to remove his admin privileges, but it still shows he's an admin as in the first screenshot (that is the one where you click on admin, mods, etc., on the bottom of the page).

I also created another person and it doesn't look like just any Joe Schmoe gets admin privileges.

Thanks for your help.

Bingo!   Got him off.

There was still one more group I was missing.

I still haven't figured out why I have admin privileges under my moderator name, but that's for a different day.

Thanks again.

so it was group permissions?

remember others will have the same problems, so please explain as much as you can what caused an issue and what the answer was.

Like you said, there are so many permission areas.

In the global permissions, I found Lou had been added in there some how.    I'm sure it was a glitch from the change over to phpBB3.

I also found him in the Permissions masks area.

I don't think those were my only two problem areas, but what I can recall.

I also cleared the cache after each time I removed him so that he wouldn't ghost himself back in.

I remember on a paid for site making the switch and the permissions were all wacked up. It took days to figure out everything and get people to where they were supposed to be. I don't know what possessed the phpBB3 guys to make it that complex, but once you get the hang of it, you can do a lot of things with it. Time and practice is all I can say to help you.
