If you are asking a template related question, what is the name of the template:

Basically I wanna know how I go about squishing things to a 'centered' position from the 'stretched' position. Everything is too wide and I want it not so, if that makes any sense. What part of the template do I go to to edit the numbers to make it sized the way I want? Once I know that I can dicker with it, I'd like to muss with the colors too, but I'll settle for making it not stretched.
myff admin

I don't know that I'm seeing what you seeing, I'm seeing a slightly distorted logo, but no other stretching.
Coridae

That's because I changed the template to something that was centered.
Most of the styles provided don't do that and that's why I wanna know how to change that.
There are some great styles, but I want them to do what the style I have now does and I wanna know how I go about doing that myself.
Bravo

This section would be a good place to start: http://howtodoit.myfreeforum.org/...hp?component=forum&forumid=36
Coridae

That's useful, but I was hoping for a more direct answer to the problem I'm having, like 'go to this section and look for this, edit whenever' type thing.
I'm sure the margins for the width are in the sections of code somewhere, but I just don't know what section its under.
Nick(NR)

it really is dependant on the template you have chosen, the way their setup in phpbb2 is the opening bit of code is in the overall_header.tpl where you should see the start of the table that layouts everything in order, you should see width="100%" or similar, that should be the only one you need to edit, maybe align="center" if it's not there, you can add it
Coridae

What section of the code list should I look under?
That's the biggest thing is knowing where to go, the style I wanna edit is the lord of the rings one, but I had to settle for the one I have.
symon

You are not making yourself clear enough.

first off when i click your link it goes to your forum and not a webpage, yet you have posted in webpage editing section in here.

There is a big difference to forum templates and the webpage templates, which one are you wishing to edit.

Also can you provide the name of the template that you wish to use that you say is too stretched.

By providing this info would then enable us to see the problem and the correct template section we need to look at.
Coridae

Gods, just my luck I'd put this in the wrong place lol.
The style I want to make a template of to edit is in the books and literature section of the styles to download, its called lord of the rings.
The one I am using now is just temporary till I can muss with the one I really want to use.
Is that better?
symon

Ok here is your answer..

The file you need to edit is the overall-header.tpl

look for a code like this.

Code:
<body bgcolor=#4D6250 leftmargin=0 topmargin=0 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 rightmargin=0 bottommargin=0>
<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

Now edit the Table width and margin width to something like this.

Code:
<body bgcolor=#4D6250 leftmargin=0 topmargin=0 marginwidth=200 marginheight=0 rightmargin=0 bottommargin=0>
<table width="50%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

So it goes from this

To this

Coridae

O_O It worked! I had to muss with the values some more cuz they ended up a bit wonky, but now that I know where I need to go the rest is just up to me fussing over it!
Thank you very very much!
Coridae

Sorry for the double post, but I have a new bit of trouble and this time its changing the background, I didn't see the point of making a new thread.

Now, I finally got it the way I want, but now I have this flat color behind and I wanna change that, the problem is...

http://howtodoit.myfreeforum.org/...component=content&topicid=712

That guide doesn't fit the theme I have, neither the header or the css area have what is described.
As a result I am quite confused and in need of assistance yet again lol.

While I'm at it I'd also like the area to change the size of the 0's under 'posts' and 'threads' they seem rather...large.
I'd also like to muss with the text colors, like for the sub-forum names as they blend in with the color of the descriptive text under them.
If I'm gunna be asking one question, I might as well ask the rest, saves the poor person helping me a ton of time!

So, could someone help me?
:3 Thanks in advanced!
symon

To change the background colour you need to edit this part of the code in overall_header.tpl

Code:
</head>

<body bgcolor=#4D6250  leftmargin=0 topmargin=0 marginwidth=200 marginheight=0 rightmargin=0 bottommargin=0>

Change the bgcolor to the one you want... you can find the color codes here

http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp

Now to change the numbers in post and threads you need to edit index_body.tpl

look for

Code:
<td class="row1"><span class="smalltext"><font size="2">{catrow.forumrow.POSTS}</font></span></td>
          <td class="row2"><span class="smalltext"><font size="2">{catrow.forumrow.TOPICS}</font></span></td>

change the font size to 1 on both of them.

Lastly the txt colour change can all be done in the .css file

I wont do that part for you , as you need to do a little learning yourself, just mess with the textarea colours and you will get the hang of it.
Coridae

I'll give it a shot

Mostly what I wanna do is replace that flat color with an image, but I can't figure out how as there is no section for it in the places that I was told to look.
symon

For a background image rather than a colour simply change it from colour to image like this

Code:
</head>

<body background="http://www.YOUR PATH TO IMAGE GOES HERE"  leftmargin=0 topmargin=0 marginwidth=200 marginheight=0 rightmargin=0 bottommargin=0>
<table width="50%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

Change the url to the path of your image
Coridae

All that did was make it white, there is no image.

If this helps, here is the code I am working with.

Code:
<!-- DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
   "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd" -->
<!-- <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> -->

Maybe that'll help you.
Cuz what you gave me is pretty much where I tried it the first time and even the coding that I used to do it and it did to me what its doing now.
symon

If that is the code you are using then you have no background image , just a bgcolor ..

this is the section that needs to be edited....

Code:
</head>

<body background="http://www.w3schools.com/images/w3logotest2.png"  leftmargin=0 topmargin=0 marginwidth=400 marginheight=0 rightmargin=0 bottommargin=0>
<table width="50%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
   <tr>

If all you see is a white background, then more and likely your path to the image is wrong or broke.

try the link above and then tell me what you see.. if it works you will see something.
Coridae

Ohhh, I see what was wrong, I'd been following what it told me to do picture wise in the faq.
I didn't think an outside link would even work...
It did and its all fixed!!
I should have just tried an outside link anyways, but these forums are so different from say PHPBB's free forums that I just assumed it had to be from the same place.

How do you get the widget thing like you have on the left?
I think its pretty neat.
symon

The widget thing on the left ????

Go on give me a clue lol
Coridae

It shows like the server appeal, etc, I call those widgets xD

Oh, before I forget...
Is there a way to make it so that when I scroll up or down the background stays stationary, but the forums float over it and move?
I'm pretty sure there is a way to do it, but I just don't know what I need to paste in or edit to make it so.
symon

They are called portals . If you look at portals on my HOWTODOIT site it explains them in there.
Coridae

Thanks :3

What about the other thing?
symon

Your forum size fits the page perfectly (if not a little to the right too much) so I am unclear to how this would help you .

The background pic will always scroll up with the forum block. I really do not see how trying to float it will make any difference, unless you are seeing it different to me.
Nick(NR)

Code:
</script>
<!-- END switch_enable_pm_popup -->

<style type="text/css">

body {
   background-attachment: fixed;
   background-repeat: repeat;
}

<style>

</head>

the bit above adds in some style sheet definitions that further control how the background image is shown, this way it should repeat to fill the screen(dependant on resolution) then stay fixed as you scroll, if that's what your aiming for of course.
Coridae

Hey Nick, I pasted it in where it needed to go, but it briefly made the whole forum disappear, it looked like a white page.
It was incredibly bizarre...

Symon, I'm aware it leans a bit, but getting the rest how I'd like is more time consuming than fussing over that one small section.
I'm going to fix it once I have the other details that are bugging me changed.
Nick(NR)

you added in all of it didn't you? you just needed to add the style tags and what was between, the bits above and below are to show you where to place it, I should have mentioned that.

I post it that way so people can see the differences to help them locate where it should go and what is missing, as a way of guiding people
Coridae

No, I copied in just the new stuff, the rest was just a reference in where it needed to go.

xD I might know only a little, but I know where things go when adding new text at least!
I just don't know why it made the whole forums like...poof, there was just a blank white page.

Edit:
There is already code like that in it.

Code:

And its already like what you suggested.
Except that it doesn't do what I want it to.
Nick(NR)

you can't add style definitions to the body tag, explains why it went pop, thus why I posted it in style tags to add between the head, below is the fixed one.

So I put in that, but it still made it all go poop lol.

Which is so odd...
Thankfully I saved the original so I can fix it, but I don't know why its doing that.
