Report Post Addition

OK, I've just created a little portal code that will allow users to report a post to the administartor of the board (via email).

Its not much and I'm sure anyone could do it, but heres how I did it.

1. Goto Administation Panel.
2. Goto Styles > Portal Settings
3. Create BLANK Portal
4. Fill in details as below.

5. Click "Create New Portal" to save the changes.

6. Goto Styles > Edit Templates/Logos
7. Edit the template you wish to add the report option to.
8. In the "Choose Portal template File to Edit" find "cms_report.tpl"
9. Delete the code and type the following.
Code:
<a href="mailto:youremail@hotmail.co.uk?subject=Report Post
&body=Please replace this text with the url of the post you wish to report... Any other information would be helpful."><img src="http://www.swansearc.co.uk/forums/style_images/Mactasti-737/p_report.gif" border="0"></a>

(You only need to replace the email address and the url of the image.)
10. Click Submit.

11. Edit the viewtopic_body.tpl
12. Find
Code:
{postrow.QUOTE_IMG}

13. Before it add
Code:
{MYFF.REPORT}

14. It should look something like
Code:
<td valign="top" nowrap="nowrap">{MYFF.REPORT} {postrow.QUOTE_IMG} {postrow.EDIT_IMG} {postrow.DELETE_IMG} {postrow.IP_IMG}</td>

15. Click submit and your done.

Heres what it will look like. (the image doesn't look very good but you will probably be replacing that so its ok, allthough it will probably look ok on a light background.)

Upon clicking the button the users email program will open with the following allready filled out.

I know its not much, but it may be helpful for some people.

Always good to see people having a go at things like this.

However I have to ask what the difference is between that and send the admin or mod a pm ?

theres not really much difference, but some people are too lazy to send PM's if they think that a post is breaking the rules, but if theres a report post button theyre more likely to click it.

I would like it to be automatic and fill in the url of the page automatically too but im not sure how to do that.

Change this bit

Code:
<a href="mailto:youremail@hotmail.co.uk?

so if the admin email was

spam@spam.com  it would read

Code:
<a href="mailto:spam@spam.com?
Daniel(u1bd2005)

OK, Ive got it to automatically fill in the url of the page into the message.

the new code for the portal should be

Code:

<a href="mailto:youremail@domain.com?subject=Report Post
&body=http://yourforum.myfreeforum.org/{U_VIEW_TOPIC}"><img src="http://www.swansearc.co.uk/forums/style_images/Mactasti-737/p_report.gif" border="0"></a>

edit: symon could you edit my first post to update it plz as I cant edit it after 20 minutes.

also to some extent this is what moderation portal is for, ok it doesn't stop certain posters getting aggressiveness towards one an other, but surely you have moderators that are available to move, delete the offending posts to a hidden area, to allow the admin when next on to take action.

Also, not sure how many people use email clients I've got outlook still installed and I don't touch it, so chances are 90% of people here would have to go through all the muc of setting outlook up to their hotmail account, just to point a post a mod or admin should be spotting anyway?

Sorry to be so sharp, it's a good idea and well thought out, but is dead when you think of the system that should be in place, should these posts not be dealt with then the mod/admin team aren't doing enough to check.

I tried, it requires a "editor" user.

an editor user is just a member called editor that has administrator rights, you should create one for when you want to make any template changes.

There will surely be a post either on here or howtodoit explaining more and why you should use an editor user.

Just use the search bar above.
