Reclaim those bank charges u.k onlyI,ve heard of this before but after watching "tonight with Trevor McDonald" it made me want to mention it again.
If you have been charged huge sums for being a few pence overdrawn then you can claim your money back.
Now most banks will say no so the key steps are as follows
1. find out how much you have been charged in the last 6 years
2. write too them asking for this to be returned
3. write again and this time tell them you will take them to court
now most cases are settled out of court after months of the bank saying no no no
here is a great website that can help and explain more
Why let the banks get away with it

| Quote: | The Banks' Abuse of the Credit Register
The banks have traded on their reputation for integrity to foist their penalty charges onto an acquiescent public. Most people consider that "Yes, I did overspend, therefore I do deserve this slap on the wrist. I'll try harder not to get it wrong next time."
But the truth is that these penalty charges are unlawful
UK High Street Banks profit out of the ordinary British bank customers sense of decency and moral responsibility. The ordinary British Bank Customer believes that this sense of moral decency is characterised by mutuality.
How wrong we all are.
Retaliatory action by the banks includes peremptory account closure, immediate demand for repayment of overdraft and defaulting the customer on the credit register. This creates a credit 'Hell' for the customer for the next 6 years.
A default on the credit register means that your life becomes extremely difficult for at least 6 years - and yet very often the default is placed on the register precisely because the customer could not pay the banks own unlawful charges!
You might ask yourself if there isn't something fundamentally corrupt when a bank has the right to default a customer FOR ITS OWN PURPOSES without any court action and with no control.
If someone owed you money and didn't pay you, could you go and put a default entry in the credit register? No of course you couldn't. You would need a court judgment to do it.
The banks have a privileged access to the default register which they abuse. There is no scrutiny and there is no control.
When the scandal of the banks' abuse of their dominant and fiduciary position is brought to an end, watch out for the defamation actions - Lots of them. |

Before TSB merged with Lloyds, it used to be a good bank...
I'd bugger something up, they'd charge me £17 or whatever it was at the time...I'd phone up the branch manager (a bird), she'd realise how obviously gorgeous etc I was, the charges were scrapped. One phone call was all it took.
Since the merger howver, Lloyds TSB has become the worst bank in the world ever.
I borrowed £3,500 a few years ago, paid back £4,800 before I had a hiccup, then all of a sudden they say I owe them £6,500....yeh right, like I'm gonna pay em that!....they can whistle for it, and indeed do whistle for it, but they aint getting a penny of it...

Natwest are a nightmare they make you go overdrawn then they charge you for it!!
It wouldnt be so bad if the charges were reasonable but they are far far from it.

Well Halifax misplaced three grand of mine into an account in my name that I had no access to, so three times i went into that bank to sort it, I was there for about an hour each time with no results.
So when I went in last thursday I was shocked, it took this girl less than 30 mins to just transfer it to my account
If that is all it took, why the F! didn't they do that first time round.

I have a few times been to the co-op with some strange form of cheque and ended up walking out as they have no idea what to do Down the street at Nationwide it get paind straight in.

Makes me laugh when people go to a bank for business advice...
They are getting advice from some gimp on £10k a year that don't know his arse from his elbow. If you want business advice you're better off asking a (successful) businessman

Yes, indeed, I have been round the business loop a couple of times, once as a teenager with no useful advice from parents, peers, banks or anyone really Now I didn't crash and burn and in fact ran a business over the VAT threshold which with software was no small deal.
But I didn't really make much out of it either I fancy if I had know what I was doing, then I would have done really well.
I'd recommend any young person starting out to face up to the fact that they may not know all they need to know, and find a decent source of advice.

i am only 16 so i cant actually get charged, but i have.
Let me explain...
I bought a new game of of Ebay and i had the money in the bank, so i payed for it. What i was unawhere of was Paypal charged me for paying via their service and i went 4 pence overdrawn. The bast*rd bank charged me £35 to send me a letter to tell me this.
So i went to my bank and complained and told them my mum said if we have to pay the charge both of us would close our accounts and go elsewhere, but they did nothing.
A few days later we sent a letter to the bank manager and did not get a reply for 2 weeks.
The letter he sent back said that the £35 taken out of my account had been refunded as i was unable to recieve penelties and they send their apologies.
Since then this has happened twice again but both times i have been refunded a couple of days later.
I have just changed my bank too where there is no chance of any charges as i cannot go overdrawn (I was'nt supossed to be able to with NATWEST! Oopps, did i just give the name of that crappy bank, dearie me, must be going mad)
So far no probs with new bank but account has onlt been open 2 weeks

WHY oh WHY when people write to bank they do not charge the bank the same amount as the bank would charge you.
You can do it by law, they will say i,m not paying you ask why they say because it doesnt cost you that to send i.
Then you say back to them good point thats why i,m not paying your charges
Quite simple really stop moaning about it and stand up and attack your bank the way they attack your accounts???
