A reconfiguration is planned, if it works first time, you won't even notice it.

You can tell if you are on slarti by typing:

ping myname.myfreeforum.org

at the CMD line. Only myfreeforum forums are on slarti. If the IP address starts 64.38.5. or 64.38.30 you are on slarti.

The reconfiguration is designed to allow other server changes to be made without downtime.

Well that seemed to go fairly smoothly.


In essence we use a server management package called Plesk, we started on Plesk 7.5 which as a package was dead set on configuring the server its way and would overwrite anything done that it did not approve of, like for example a forums system To state the obvious we came up with ways and means of stopping Plesk doing this, but it always meant that certain tasks we want Plesk to mange required manual effort as we had nobbled Plesk

With the new servers and Plesk 8.0 we carried on with the same system, but some experimenting on "Ford" which we were in no hurry to get up and running revealed there was now scope for peaceful co-existence

Will do the same on "Zaphod" next Saturday.

Seems fast enough to me, that error did occur briefly, but should not now be an issue
