Possible Take Over?

http://swapitshop.myfineforum.org/Take_Over__about1849.html

I pm'd a mod a few weeks back saying I need to make a topic on the forum and here. Its been about 3/4 weeks now I posted it. Only 1 person has made a reply.
admin (no pm's please)

Tricky as that is hardly a ringing endorsement, take overs are meant to have some popular demand behind them otherwise we are handing over in effect a mailing list with no mandate to do so.

This is not a comment on you personally of course.

I have prompted the actual owners email for a response.
admin (no pm's please)

For the record, the owner email address is bouncing. The problem remains that you have no mandate here.

So your saying unless lots of people post I can't take over the forum?
admin (no pm's please)

It's not a situation we have had before and I welcome other peoples thoughts on this.

But as a strict rule then I would have to say that it would be totally unacceptable for a dead forum to be changed ownership without any really membership endorsement.

I am sure you can see that side of the argument, as indeed I can see there may be grounds for exceptions.
Daniel(u1bd2005)

In my opinion I can only see an exception being granted to someone who has been on the forum for a while and contributed to the forum, i see that you only have one post though
Bravo

In this case, I don't think it would be reasonable to hand over a forum of 17,000 posts to someone who's take over post is his one and only post on the forum.

edit:  Daniel beat me to it, I took time visualising the point    Wink

My username was: AMAZING_SWAPS

Its just I can't get logged in as I forgot my password.
admin (no pm's please)

And what about the lost password routine? and why if that is the case would you not have mentioned your ID when making the takeover claim?

Frankly what you have now said would just make us even more irresponsible in letting you take over.
Daniel Beal

I do get your point. The reason is if you look at 'AMAZING_SWAPS' posts where was't that good. As it was ages ago. It was my first Swapitshop Forum I went on. But since then I improved my posts. I was embassed to post my user ID as people might think I was a spammer.

The email that I signed up with has now exipred. My email has changed and I can't gain access to my old email address. So I can't reset my password.
Bravo

Either way your post about taking over didn't receive a single endorsement.  The only other reply was from someone saying they would like to take the forum over.
admin (no pm's please)

I think we have to call this a dead duck.

I am sure anyone looking dispassionately at it would have to agree.

It may be a shame but that's sometimes the way things go.
Daniel(u1bd2005)

Why not take this chance to start your own forum from scratch, i always find it better knowing that something has happened because of my hardwork and not someone elses, im sure if you work at it hard enough you will be able to make it successful.

Anyway, good luck.

I couldn't agree more Daniel - You get far more satisfaction from knowing  that your Forum is your own efforts & hard work.

I will sit on the fence here and say I'm more pragmatic. Most forums start from some nugget of opportunity generally involving another forum, and I don't think their owners should be any less proud of their achievements.

So I did feel this was an idea with validity, if it could be justified. So full marks to Daniel for asking, and a pass mark for us, for having the probity to refuse
Daniel Beal

Ok I see the problem. I guess I will just have to pass then. If I can't get in the control panel I can't do anyhting to try and turn it around Its a shame as they is't any posting I got 1 reply in about 1 month which tells me its a totally dead forum. Thanks anyway!

I'm pretty sure the owner of this forum won't be replying because he passed away a while ago?

There is one way of resolving this.

Force this issue  - in order to gain the overall view of the board in question's wider membership.

As 'Admin Global' for the MyFF Brand, and already having an ID/log-in for the site in question, make a public post (perhaps involving a WELL WORDED poll) to try and gauge the opinion of the currently active membership.

Ask them what they want to see happen in terms of who owns/runs/Moderates the board?

Once you've allowed the poll to run for a week or two (to give everyone enough time to log-on and read and respond to the question/poll), then you can make a call on precisely which way to play it.

Just a suggestion - but it would be a pity to see a productive/populated/busy forum go to seed for want of any willing or available Administrator.

Either way, good luck with it.
Daniel Beal

That sounds like a good idea. But only about 1/2 users will vote. As harldy anyone goes on they anymore. It would be nice to see it running again!
