PORTAL HELPThis is part of making my site easier to run and more appealing. I have the lastest post portal set up. My forum is a cooking forum with many different topics not just about recipes. But I was wondering if there is a way to change the portal so that it only shows the latest recipes posted on the forum and not every recent post.
LOOK AT MY SIG FORMY FORUM!!!

You could make recipes such as 'editors choice' and only show those types of posts in the portal

how do you do that. I don't understand what you mean?

If you edit the first post in the thread, you can select one of the following:
You can then set your portal to only display posts of the type you select (eg sticky, editors choice etc)

I did that but it doesn't show any thing except the title now. My Portal Settings for it are:
Component Type-->SEARCH
Name-->LATEST
Title-->Latest Recipes
Show Title-->Yes
Count-->5
Search Time-->100000
Search Author-->
Link to-->CONTENT
Show Result as-->Topics
Show Replies-->No
Filter-->All
Portal Forums-->
Search Type-->6 EDITORSCHOICE

You need to make one of your posts as editors choice, once you do that, it will show in the portal

Try making the recipe as a sticky, and displaying stickies, see if that works or not

I wanted to have a portal that would show upcoming events posted on my forum. I created a new portal based on the sticky portal and saved it as "events".
I then set the "Search Type" field to 5 for Portal Top.
Now when someone posts a topic that includes an event I just edit the topic to be a Portal Top and when the event passes I just go back and set it as normal.
Works for me
Have a look if you wish:

It's on the right and is titled Events June 2008

That didn't work either.

How do you do this? I think it is cool but don't understand how to do it. When I create a new blank portal there is not a choice for search type it is just TITLE, NAME and SHOW TITLE.

OK - Go to administration panel
Under the heading 2. Styles - Click on portal settings
Look for the one called sticky and click on it
At the top you will see the field called name and it will say STICKY
Change the name to what you want - I called mine EVENTS
Then change the field called title to what you want it to be - I titled mine Events June 2008
Then put a 5 in the Search Type field for Top Portal
Scroll to the bottom and you will see the buttons and click on create new portal
I then placed my prtal in the overall_footer.tpl as {MYFF.EVENTS}
All i do now is go in as an admin to the message and click edit, then scroll down to the options at the bottom and change the topic to a Portal Top rather than normal, submit the change and go back to the index page and I can see the topic in my EVENTS PORTAL.
When the event has passed I go back and edit the topic to be normal.
Hope that helps

Which portal type are you using?
For the latest recipes, use the 'latest' portal, then once you are in there, edit the ringed section:
So that it has the number ( 7 ) for editors choice. Then edit the first post of your recipe thread to be an editors choice and it will appear (assuming you have added the correct code in the relevent place on your template).

ah thats why I was putting 6 instead of 7.
