PhpBB3

http://lifewithoutlimitsforum.com

Hi, I updated my forum to PhpBB3 yesterday as I was using PhpBB2 up to then.

Now everyone can see the new version except me   and i just wanted to check I had done everything right? I still have to use http://lifewithoutlimits.slarti3.myfreeforum.org in order to see the newer version and I'm slightly worried that the posts etc might get a little screwed up?

Thanks

If you are wanting everyone to use the phpbb3 forum, you can set the checkboxes in the control panel to force people through to the phpbb3 forum whilst the link propagates to let people in via the normal link.

We normally recommend that you play with phpbb3 yourself until you are happy and then agree without your members a transfer date at which point you can perform the upgrade again and finalize it.

No one should be posting (except to test) on a phpbb3 forum that has not been finalized and link forced.

ok, so I checked the forum and it's fine (except the banner but that's just cosmetic) and I set the check box to force.

I'm really sorry (and blond) but could you just explain the bit about the link being finalized and link forced?

I followed the howtodoit tutorial and thought I had done everything. I know I have to wait up to 48 for the link to propagate, is this what you are referring to?

Forcing places a redirect on the phpbb2 forum so people going there get sent to the explicit phpbb3 link that includes "slarti".

The actual forum link will currently point to phpbb2 and the web needs to be told otherwise, this can take 48 hours and is not in our control.

OK, so it's just a case of waiting?

Thank you

What I want...

When someone new, logged out or even logged in comes to http://lifewithoutlimitsforum.com they arrive on the pretty white page about the forum (this page is built off of the back of the phpBB v3 forum). Three photos down the left hand side and a link to the forum proper. At the moment the page I want resides here http://lifewithoutlimits.myfreeforum.org/index.html

Then, I want the Forum link/button on that page to point to the example URL of http://lifewithoutlimitsforum.com/phpbb/index.php or something along those lines so people are into the main forum and can view all the chat areas. However, somewhere along the lines of us upgrading from phpBB v2 to v3 and creating this new front page.... something's gone completely tits-up.

For example, we're not even all posting on the same database anymore. http://lifewithoutlimitsforum.com/forum2.php this points to (what I consider) to be the correct forum/database but I'm not so sure. Frustration levels are hitting a new high and we're really buggering around the members. Sadly, it might be my(our) fault so I'm very sorry in advance for f**kwittery.

Thanks.

http://lifewithoutlimitsforum.com/

seems to be phpbb2.

http://lifewithoutlimits.myfreeforum.org/

is now on phpbb3.

This is because your own nameservers continue to point the http://lifewithoutlimitsforum.com domain to the phpbb2 version of the forum.

incidently the domain tester gave this warning:

Quote:

Root trace returned known A record.

The root trace resolved from namerservers that are totally different from the domains authoritive nameservers. This may well be expected if the domain is itself a registered nameserver. A nameserver address can be registered directly at the registrar. This address may override the resolution address set at the nameserver!

but in this case things resolved from :

ns.123-reg.co.uk ns2.123-reg.co.uk

but the registered name servers are:

ns2.hosteurope.com

ns.hosteurope.com
~LonelyAngel~

So do I need a new IP address to point 123-reg towards? (if so, could you PM it to me?) Thank you, as always, for your help.
admin (no pm's please)

64.38.30.30 will be the ip address.
~LonelyAngel~

Thank you, kind sir. I've set 123-reg up to reflect the new IP address and shall gently bash my computer until something happens.
