Phpbb3: Vast numbers of smilies in categories added

This is new code so may be buggy.

But all the old phpbb2 smilies and paks are now available for installation in phpbb3.

Rather annoying to say the least that phpbb3 did not bother to offer categorized smilies or make it possible (as it is very easy) to read the old smiley "pak" format.

Whilst we didn't want to tweak core phpbb3, over a year waiting for smilies has been much too long and for this I apologise.

You are the best Admin!! Now I just need to remember which smilies I had on V2.... At least the process of adding them is easier with V3.

Cheers admin, but where are:

"Cool_Smileys"?
admin (no pm's please)

They are there on my phpbb3 forum.

Remember not all Smileys have a "pak". they may just be categories.

Sorry, but after a search I can't find out how to add smileys which aren't in a 'pak'.
admin (no pm's please)

There is an "Add multiple smilies" option at the bottom of the main smiley screen.

yeah, but I click that, then for the category change it to "Cool_Smileys" then I get this error message:

Information

No smilies were added.

Which if you just hit apply is exactly what you would expect. You need to enter the information for the smilies you want to add.

I'm not hitting apply. I don't understand what to do? :P
Zudane

Simple: Select the one you want from the list, let them load.  on the right side is a box you check to add the smiley.  make sure you enter a smiley code such as and an emotion, say "Smile".

Then when you selected what you wanted, hit apply.

But as soon as I select them from the list, it comes up with the error page.

Just what is the point in saying you have a problem that others do not and then not telling us anything useful?

No forum link, no browser type....
P Shivers

This is just an FYI for those that may be as slow as me.

If you choose a category that has pictures that are wide, they will push the placement dropdown and the add check box off the screen without resizing and giving a scroll bar. If that happens, you can just tab over and it will appear.

At least it did on my FireFox at 1024x768
admin (no pm's please)

I was seeing a lot of such issues and have tweaked the template a lot narrower, all the same it is a problem.

Forum link: http://swapitshopboards.myfreeforum.org
Browser type: Google Chrome

I could take a video of the screen of the error, if you like?
admin (no pm's please)

Given you are using an odd browser, it would be vaguely useful for you to try with something more standard.

A screenshot of an error message would not be useful.
admin (no pm's please)

I can confirm that problem using google chrome and will check it out in the morning.
Zudane

Sounds like it's just doing more than refreshing the page when you select it, but rather accepting it and moving to the next page.

Google chrome may be slim and sleek, but firefox still is awesome.  Problem probably is the browser.
admin (no pm's please)

Problem  was a small html bug, solved now. But would have been solved a darn sight quicker if the pertinent information like using a browser with beta status and a 0.5% marker share was mentioned!
Zudane

ooh ooh, can we get this one?! someone posted it as an image, and I like it ^_^

admin (no pm's please)

that has gone into "contrib".
Zudane

yay ^_^ thanks.
snowgoose

Is the only way to add smilies to request them to be added in here, or can we add our own smilies to our forums?
admin (no pm's please)

You have to ask.
snowgoose

OK, in which case, could you add the following three smilies please.

admin (no pm's please)

look in "contrib".
snowgoose

Brilliant, Thanks
nora

Hello, would it be posible to upload the following smilies please?

Many thanks
admin (no pm's please)

When more than a couple are involved, then they will need supplying as a single "zip" file.
Roy

Thanks Admin.

Can't believe phpbb3 has been out for so long now, only feels like a few months that everyone was talking about it been in release candidate stage.
admin (no pm's please)

Still should be at that stage
Roy

You wouldn't think Admin loves phpbb3 from that statement would you.
Roy

Here's a screenshot of a problem with adding new smilies using internet explorer 7 with service pack 3. I have noticed this is the same for a few smiley categories.

admin (no pm's please)

I can't read that, at least not enough to see an issue.
Roy

The problem is you have to check the boxes for each smiley you wish to add, the check boxes you can see are to decide if you want them shown on the post body or not, the check boxes you need to select the smilies you wish to add are not accessible because the boxes would be after the smiley orginsing box which as you can see is just visable on the edge of the right side of the screen, and there is no left to right scroll bar so i can't add any smilies from this and a few other categories. The category above is called "awesome"
admin (no pm's please)

Can't you twiddle this. e.g. resize the window dragging it off screen to the left and resizing width wise.
Roy

Nope i've tried and it didn't change anything.
admin (no pm's please)

What about if you click the "Hide or display side menu" icon at the top right of the left side menu?
Roy

Yes clicking hide and display works thanks Admin. Wink

I never knew about the hide and display button till now.
admin (no pm's please)

No sweat. Me neither
southsydneycarclub

Can someone point me to rules so I can upload smilies please.......
admin (no pm's please)

You can't upload your own smilies.

You can attach post/attach sets in a zip file here. If they are a useful addition they will be added.
judy

Please would you consider uploading these smileys for phpbb3:

Many thanks!
admin (no pm's please)

I have put them in the contrib category.
judy

That was quick!!! Thank you very much
