When a search engine sees your forum, the topic links will look similar to:

http://servermasters.myfastforum....server_status_access_about44.html

e.g. they will use the topic title with "_about{topicid}" appended to it.

This is the single most effective SEO step, engines only spider down a site so far, and the links that they are likely to rate are topic links to topics with good content, topping that off with a keyword rich URL is the key to helping promote that link.

We can and will do similar with forum links, and more deeply nested links, but this single step is probably 90% of the effectiveness of what can be achieved in the one simply change.

phpbb2 has had it for years, it shows to spiders not to registered members.

Rather interesting way to go for it, but also the best I think.

Rather than changing everything, only need changes for the bots.

It's a debatable question really   but non SEO links are quicker for registered users to use, but them of course if they do post the links elsewhere they lose a little SEO power.
