Permissionshttp://drewschofield.myfreeforum.org/index.php
I just have a quick question which may seem a bit stupid.
I'm now running my forum on version 3 and I'm making various chages by adding new catergories, forums and subforums.
In version 2 if there was a forum I only wanted certain usergroups to see then I selected private (hidden) in permissions then gave the usergroup permission.
So in version 3 how do I ensure forums aren't on display to anyone I don't want to see them so guests wouldn't be able to see any forums and then have the usergroups I want to see specific forums see only those and not every forum.
Is it forum permissions or group permissions?
As certain parts of my forum are only open to trusted members then I don't want to get the permissions wrong.
Thanks

phpbb3 permissions are hugely overwhelming, there's a plethora of options. The best way is to just play around and you'll eventually find out what works.

in phpbb3 the permissions are substantially more detailed. You'll need to set permissions for every major group (registered, guest, bot, global mod, admin) and then the group that has access.
Generally, setting the registered permissions to No will make the forum hidden to everybody except guests, global mods, admin and bots, so you will want to set permissions for them all. Then just select the group you want to have access, and give standard access (full allows them to ignore a flood limit - if there is one, and post stickies).
And remember, Yes gives access, No does not give access, and Never means never - even if the user is in another group that has Yes selected. And otherwise a Yes will override a No (if a user is in 2 groups, one has Yes and one has No, the user will have Yes).
Make sure you test the permissions out as well. Find a user in the group (or make one) and go to their profile and you will see "Test user's permissions". Click that and you will be seeing the board the same way the user would. Just remember to restore your own permissions after or you can't use the ACP.
