Own domain namesIf you are using your own domain name to genuinely point to our domains. e.g. if you have gone through us for this service and changed your DNS settings rather than using some form of redirect, then changes are about to take place.
First the good news, this service was originally rapidly "bolted on" to the system and always ended up creating problems when we introduced new features like template editing. As we are about to introduces a complete web page solution integrated into the forums, the time came to recode the own domain system to make it much more integrated with the way the system works.
Now the not so good news. Some people with own domains have had the address of their forum set to "www." and the "www." address is not for consistency always going to be used for the web page side of the system.
Therefore if you have been accessing your forum on:
www.mydomain.com
you would now need to access it on:
mydomain.com
We apologise for any inconvenience, but this is a needed step to help all the new features function smoothly.

So to sum it up for the confussed
instead of
www.farnboroughinvincibles.co.uk which took you to the forum
now it would be
farnboroughinvincibles.co.uk which will lead to the portal // webpage look

The manu domain now seems to work
The own domain stuff is now in and does seem to be working okay generally, but it does need a little while to see that it is stable.
Notably some of the new web page code is now being called, as the front page of a forum will be able to be either the old portal page or a web page and the web page is checked first.

There were a few glitches
Differences in php versions cause one glitch.
if ($a == 2)
and
if ($a ==3)
can both be true at the same time! would you believe it.
Also some poorly conceived code designed to protect own domains from an incorrect update, prevented the name of the forum in its own database being updated away from starting "www" if that was how it had been set This lead to some pages heading for the portal wrongly.
Oh and certain formats of domain names also got mishandled
This sort of thing was why this update is being done before the web page stuff, despite delaying it as some potential issues were found, I was not expecting this to go totally smoothly.

ok
thanks everything works now
and is there no way then, so that when you click on my domian name it will actually take you straight to the forum instead of the component page
or could i edit the component page

Hmmm
Well I haven't been able to use the portal view on my site due to a glitch that we couldn't fix. see here http://my-local-poker.com/index.php?component=indexpage
Therefore when my site defaults from www. to the portal view ...well you can imagine what users are saying with that grey background
Is there a way to just divert the www.my-local-poker.com to my-local-poker.com
Plus my Admin page access link is not working

admin link should now be ok.
As of tomorrow the www link can go to a page of your own total design, which should give you more control of the background.
But you could already have edited the LATEST template to fix the background.

Ohh... great...that's all good then, I will check it out in admin
But you could already have edited the LATEST template to fix the background.
I have tried, without any luck I did put the problem somewhere on this forum, but we couldn't sort it out, I think it is an incompatibility with my template |

In viewtopic_body.tpl These links also divert to the portal view
<a href="{U_INDEX}"
<a href="{U_VIEW_FORUM}"

I had to make a few changes myself today just edit them to link to where you want them to go

Yes, I did that for the index, but the {U_VIEW_FORUM} depends on what forum you are in? So its not constant...or am I being stupid again?
BTW....Plus the problem only seems to exist in older posts

Can you give a link to where the issue can be seen?

Older Post http://www.my-local-poker.com/about1091.html
Newer OK Post http://my-local-poker.com/about1091.html
Ha Ha....In doing this post I see the problem, links that I have created are taking me into the www. post address, & once you are in there you have a problem.
I wonder how many links with www. I have created in 12 months

admin (no pm's please)

Let me see if I can fix that.

Actually whilst this was an issue earlier today, both those links seem to take me to the post on the forum currently.

The problem comes when trying to exit the page using the forum nav links
It just sends you to the portal view
MY LOCAL POKER FORUM Forum Index -> Welcome To MLP

Good to hear as said elsewhere there was little practical choice than to risk some issues with own domain users, given the overriding benefits being introduced, but we are still a lot happier with the issues be resolved reasonably.
