"Offsiting" various parts of the forums was a scheme cooked up to spread load over more servers and speed up forums by allowing more parallel requests.
It was a good idea, but also added more complexity to the system and points of failure.
I have taken it offline for now, partially as things are shuffling around due to the new server installation and partially to see what happens.
