2015

i saw on 'the gadget show' tv programme that by 2015, pc's will have reached the limit and not get any faster.

its all to do with electricity travelling through the 'lines' on a silicon chip. by 2015, they will be as thin as an atom, and you cant get smaller than that.

Half an atom... a very small atom at that
admin (no pm's please)

Speed is about a whole lot more than linear processing speed. consider an 8 bit chip against a 64 bit chip, 8x the data is being processed in parrallel. We already have dual core processors, as linear speed gets harder to make progress in, work will continue in parallelisation.

and now we have quad core processors. until a new way is found in processors, we will see the multiplying of processors 2 fold. by that i mean 8x, then 16 x etc etc.

technology always advances so maybe we could actually see a new way of processing in the near future beyond our wildest dreams. someone somewhere will come up with it, be it in the very near future or beyond.

the problem with is is, with the ever advancement in AI, will this make the world economy unstable as computers will eventually take over peoples jobs and put the world into recession? following that, maybe an uncontrollable society as the balance between computers doing our work and manual work will be in favour of machines....
