The majority of myfreeforum.org forums are based on slarti and we have been getting the odd overload especially on Sunday mornings when some backup processes are taking place.

In practical reality slarti has about 60% more load on it than our two other forums servers and is the slowest of the servers, so lets be clear that we can address loading issues by moving forums between servers.

Slarti will also suffer as it has some of the oldest and largest forums.

However the main cause of overload is quite probably some excessively liberal database settings. In essence there is a trade off between getting the highest speed possible under normal load and the risk of collapsing at high load.

When we next restart the database things should be ever so ever so slightly slower in normal operation, but much better able to take the strain when the load increases.

It is better currently to deal with issues by changing aggressive settings, as it is important to get the most we can out of servers.
