New office toys

As we have just gone VAT registered and some MarsJupiter customers have paid some bills (MarsJupiter still pays the bills, not the forums!) I have just got a nice little Dell Dual core notebook and an epson CX11N laser colour/printer/copier/scanner.
Really pleased with the printer, makes inkjets look like toys

And people blame me for spamming

What specs are the laptop you got?

Well that told you didnt it.

I love getting new toys spend days working them out then spend days trying to find out where the kids have gone with it

I am actually look forward to not playing with the printer. Inkjets alwasy seem an expensive round of fiddling with cleraning and replacement cartridges.

I invested in a MacBook Pro a couple of weeks ago and I love it! My old Laptop broke so I thought I'd splash out on a new one. I sit infront of my desktop too much and it's great to get away from it for a bit.

Having a look at that Epson though, it looks a beast!

One of my kids called it "hench"

But as we don't pay the VAT now, we are talking under £400 which may seem a lot for an all in one printer, but as this is a "business" bit of kit, I think it will last much much longer than an inkjet, and personally I have never found an inkjet that lived up to claimed cartridge life or was not a pain in the rear with the need for head cleaning etc.

It also just sits on the network, so no particular PC needs to be on for it to be usable.

Plus unlike most inkjets with there status lights that you need a code book to interpret A clear LCD display gives you the complete low down on what is going on

All told I just love big professional kit and think in the long run you save by using it.

I presume the ink doesn't last a long in those, or is it the other way round? You can get a decent enough printer for the same price as ink cartridges these days - which is ludicrous.

I thought laser printers were the most efficient as the ink comes in a big black block and prints in a long stream not like ----- like on an inkjet.
Thats also how they can be so fast.

Me too, espeically when the time comes to rip it apart!
When i was in year 9 (About 14 i think) my dad had an industrial petrol lawn mower, and when the wheel broke it was too old to replace so i took the engine out and made a wooden go kart out of it.
It was so heavy that it would hardly move except downhill. Finally the engine got destroyed

My all in one only cost me £59 and its ok, ut it just beeps if somthings wrong... Then about 5 minutes later it will tell you what the problem is on the computer screen - Normally after you've fixed it already!

As you say it is crazy. I think ink costs will work out less, the toner cardridges should last a lot longer making up for the expense of them. I guess time will tell...

Time has passed!

A few days ago I bought high capacity toners, all four cartridges, which cost the better part of £300
But the originals which were I assume standard capacity have not actually run out, black is however showing as low, with cyan not far behind, so it seemed sensible to have replacements. Though pretty dumb in a way as Magenta and Yellow are still practically full.
Still makes it hard to really judge the costs.
However, there has been no maintenance on this printer from day one. It just sits there and prints, and some test pages I printed today as I set up printing on my new Ubuntu system are as 100% perfect as the day we bought it, the fact that black toner is at the warning level, is making no quality impact at all.

and more time, and I still have not replaced the low black toner, and i'm looking at black printouts that are still totally crisp.

After years of hassle with inkjets it is really satisfying to run a printer that after a year is still perfect

we have a laser printer/scanner at work and its always been 100% reliable and 100% perfect printouts. pity the black toner is half the length of my arm and costs around £80
