Dealing with the "buddy list" will be interesting. I think it will have to be a tiered service, near instant status changes for those logged directly in to social networking and a more sluggish update showing what forums your friends are online on.

The latter will be technically interesting as what we don't want is a dependency creeping in, e.g. forums only working if the social networking is live. A lot of calculations will also have to be done on the most efficient way of doing this.

This is an area we have always been careful on, each myff forum has always been its own little island so nothing outside the forum could stop it working.
