Account creation is now well on course, but the whole myfreefriends.org site is going to run on Ajax/web2.0 and so some time now needs to be spent checking which is the current best way to do this with Joomla.
When the web page features were done, several different Ajax solutions were looked at and a few tried and found horrible before a nice answer was found.

Rather pleased to say I have found a Joomla version of what I was using on the forums
It means there is now a link that can be clicked to verify a username is available.
e.g. there is now something a little functional being shown. tomorrow should be a good day in actually seeing quite a bit done.
