Nick(NR)

web 2.0 comes to MFF

Bugs and lack of functions aside, has anyone seen a site with an interface like it? and is the interface a good move?
Symon

Sorry but thought id report this bug, the link in the email you sent out goes to a dead page.
admin (no pm's please)

fixed, the email links were aimed at the office server
Rez

I'm not sure if it's me but I can't log in... I'm given 3 options

I would like to create an account
I would like to login to an existing account
I would like to merge this forum account into an existing account

and each perform differently... I was hoping to log in and merge my account but do I use my log in details for my forum (virtualdam.myfreeforum.org) ... it brings up a log in name as Rez@virtualdam.myfreeforum.org ...?
admin (no pm's please)

You need to create an account.

I tried that also... and again this morning... new username, my e-mail addy and a new password (twice), hit tab and the next button appears... then when pressing next, nothing happens apart from and "error on page" shows up in the left cornor - status bar...

Screenshot with password removed
admin (no pm's please)

What browser are you using? and if you click on error on page does it show more detail?
Rez

IE7 error msg says:

Line:307
Char:4
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: http://www.myfreefriends.org/myfr...=46efe1ffb23345611c59c6e8d8d0bdde

Thanks for the report, this is now fixed.

But we can expect a lot more of this crap as Internet Explorer is full of shite

In this case a simple getElementById failed and it would appear to have failed as the element was not in a form, which is really totally irrelevant to anything in that context.

no problem admin... I thought reporting back would be the best oprion for ironing out of creases... I'm now logged in.

We really do need the feedback, this is a barebones alpha needing driving by the users.

Search friend still not working
admin (no pm's please)

Search is not implemented yet.
Nick(NR)

Danny please keep this thread clear for bug and error reports so admin can spot them without having to wade through any ensuing arguments between you and symon!

admin (no pm's please)

Note editing permissions also fixed.

Looks like there is a php4/5 compatibility bug in ordering of friends.

Rather than dealing with this I am ordering a php5 upgrade.

The Pop-ups are somewhat strange in terms of CSS as the tabs are hard to see.

Symon

When i click a room and try to enter i no get this come up twice then i can enter the room.

admin (no pm's please)

It may be worth clearing cache, as especially on ie7 updated javascript code may be slow to come through.

Didn't it you could, you have to use the bottom line to do it.
admin (no pm's please)

Maybe I need to make resize points more obvious.
admin (no pm's please)

Chat times should now display in your PCs local time.
kalez

looks like it will turn out great, but wasnt there a whole forum thread somewhere around here about the dangers chatting can have against forums?
admin (no pm's please)

Which does not stop people wanting chat boxes

There is another saying "the customer is always right" Wink

yup, but now we can steer them away from shoutboxes and point people in the direction of myfreefriends if they want to chat, thus keeping them on the service which people have come to know and hopefully trust.

Just another thing to outstretch other providers
admin (no pm's please)

Yep,
and our chat system will be improving a lot on what is available now.
admin (no pm's please)

A small addition is that now when you access myfreefriends via a forum, the forum chatbox appears automatically.
admin (no pm's please)

The next bit of the plot is setting up a virtual windows PC to run ie6, as there does seem to be critical ie6 issues and that is still the main browser out there
admin (no pm's please)

Well the sign up bug in ie6 is now fixed.

in ie6 an onclick event on an 'a' tag will reset any alteration you make to windows.location

Not the hardest thing to beat, but another typical annoyance demonstrating the shoddy way explorer is put together.
admin (no pm's please)

Currently the only ie6 issues I am seeing are cosmetic, and on that level I am inclined not to sweat too much. css in ie6 is horribly broken and its 33% of the market is declining by about 1% per month, a decline that I would expect to see accelerate.

So currently I am wondering what the next priority should be?

Put up a "watch what you say warnings" that may prevent problems down the road?
Nick(NR)

I'd be inclined to setup a proper page to view a members profile info(of which has been set to be shown, ie. not the hidden stuff).

oh and photo upload, possible four pic limit to see how things go?
CodyT07

Okay I got a request for Nick to add me as a friend but when i got the e-mail and followed the link it said
Quote:
You have received a friendship request from CodyT07@forum.myfreeforum.org to join myfreefriends.org

Shouldn't it be Nicks name there instead of mine?

Sorry, time for the bombard meant of "bugs"
First one, just by accessing the page I get this

Click to see full size image

2nd one it involves passwords not being entered as "*" but as the password itself.
To view this bug, you will have to get a friends request e-mail and follow the link there to see it. other then that, it shows up as * just fine.

Click to see full size image
and on that page firefox is still report
Code:
Error: uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method Location.toString

Underneath "New password" it is showing the characters instead of the "*"

And underneath myself, is there suppose to be a "submit" button

And how do you "send" a message?

Suggestion
Please add the lost password function to that page where passwords are incorrectly handled.
Add +forum you are from in the "Username:" area.
admin (no pm's please)

pressing Enter will send.

passwords and link should be fixed.

What browser are you using when you get the XhttpRequest error?

Pressing Enter does nothing (doesn't send the screen just stays there). Sorry I can't be a bit more descriptive but...

Passwords are still showing when you enter a new one, via here

Firefox, It is also reporting this now.
