myfastforum.org offline for transfer to the new server

For the time being if you go there it will redirect you to myfreeforum.org.

The offline time may be several hours.
admin (no pm's please)

Ho hum, this is going slowly, not least because myfastforum.org was the last incarnation of the myfreeforum system where the "client/server" system we used was "joined at the hip" meaning that taking the domain across means a whole legacy of redundant forums data kept as one form of backup is having to be transferred with it. In a few weeks it can all be removed, but for the time being is seems safest to be patient.

It will get there eventually and at the end of the day not being able to get to the owners control panel even for 24 hours is not going to kill anyone.
admin (no pm's please)

Have just done some checks to check that the dialog telling me it is transferring is not lying, but the data is coming across so things are getting there...
admin (no pm's please)

It seems we are only 30% of the way through in about 9 hours....
admin (no pm's please)

I can see the basic transfer completing too late tomorrow for it to be made live. It may well therefore be Saturday morning for it to be live.

But who really needs the control panel anyway? Forums are about posting

Not sure if I could or should have tried to be clever in speeding up this process. There is a certain logic in sticking with a simple, tested procedure however slow.
admin (no pm's please)

Well 22 hours in and we are beyond the halfway mark, which put basic completion back to looking like it will be in the early hours of Saturday.
admin (no pm's please)

Still only 66% there
Roy

Wow there must be loads of myfastforum.org forums.

I guess this might end up changing a few plans you may have made for this weekend?
admin (no pm's please)

Well data wise 80% of what is going across is backup baggage, the forums they represent having moved to "zaphod", all the same the data transfer rate is perhaps 1% of the cross server data transfer rate we get with normal backup procedures I can't imagine how it can be going so slowly.

If it is still looking like it will take a stupid amount more time tomorrow morning I may rethink and do it manually.

.

I DO! BADLY!
admin (no pm's please)

We are at the 83% mark, which continues on the cusp of whether to do the job manually

But I think we will stick with the automated process.

Me too! Hopefully it'll be back soon. I need to get to the CP to add codes for my affiliates table.
Symon

But things like that are not urgent are they ???

Not being able to access control panel will not effect the smooth running of a forum, it only prevents any extras being added.
Sukisue

Oh no, it's not urgent at all. No rush with it.
admin (no pm's please)

89% complete now, I think the process uses compression and dragged badly when it was transferring already compressed data. So it has started having got through that part to go a bit faster.
admin (no pm's please)

This is actually a race of interminably slow processes, can I drill a 125mm core hole in my kitchen wall before the domain transfers?
admin (no pm's please)

almost through the wall and the domain also looks pretty much there
admin (no pm's please)

Done and Done. Though you will still have to be patient as nameservers now need updating and some admin stuff will need configuring.
admin (no pm's please)

From here at least things seem back on line. But nameservers are what they are and take time to propagate, we are sill seeing something like 1/2000th of accesses that should be hitting a new server hitting the old after close to 48 hours after things were switched!
Hardcoregamer

So it's done right?

I had about 15 Xprofiles on my owners panel. a lot of them have gone now will I have to add them all back again & what has happened to all of the member info added to the Xprofiles?
admin (no pm's please)

This maybe an issue with your own domain name, try going to the owners control panel and saving.

I have tried this, but no change, Anything else you can think of before I add all the xprofile fields back?
I have all the info saved so its a quick job for me, but its going to be a pain for members adding stuff back in to their profiles
admin (no pm's please)

It is possible they are not in the template you are using?

At the control panel and in other places I am looking at, your fields are there
Wills

They are in my template.
Some of the profiles are there, how many can you see? there should be 10 different tourney win fields: tourneywin, tourneywin1, tourneywin2 etc.....
admin (no pm's please)

Spotted an anomaly, can you try again now?

Still the same
admin (no pm's please)

The control panel only has:

Quote:

[Pokerroom]
title=Poker.Com Name:
access=user
visible=all
register=yes

[Pokerroom1]
title=Jungle Poker Name:
access=user
visible=all
register=yes

[Pokerroom2]
title=OKUSA Poker Name:
access=user
visible=all
register=yes

[Refer]
title=I was referred by member:
access=user
visible=all
register=yes

[Tourneywins]
image={Tourneywins}
url=http://www.my-local-poker.com/ftopic1084.php
access=admin
visible=all
maxlength=

and I can see those. If they have somehow been lost from here, they can be rentered and the users will not lose them.

I can't account for them having been lost from the control panel
admin (no pm's please)

Maybe just maybe I can, there may be a length limit in my own control panel and when your forum had to be manually altered it may have truncated the fields

That's probably it then
No problem...I can just reenter the xprofiles & go from there...thanks for your time admin
