Making forum under category privatePLEASE ENTER THE FOLLOWING>>>>
http://stayingalive.myfreeforum.org/index.php
I looked (perhaps I used wrong search terms)- I have (or want) three kinds of members, visitors (people who just pop in and look around but cannot post), friends (people who have rights to read and post and interact with each other), and partners (we can discuss private matters openly among ourselves).
My way of thinking would say that I could make categories and move private forums into a private category(s), and to have one or more categories open for everyone else. I think I am asking can you make category "property" that when forums are moved into it, they (the forums) are visible and accessible by partners only though friends could look to see the category exists?
E.G.,
PARTNERS Category 1Only
*forum 1
*forum 2
*forum 3 (etc)
Friends Category 2
*forum 4
*forum 5
*forum 6 (etc)
Friends Category 3
*forum 7
*forum 8
*forum 9 (etc)
Partners would view and post and do everything (just short of admin) anywhere, friends would see all category "titles" but not get into the Partner area but could post and (etc) in Cat 2 & Cat 3, and visitors could... look but not post or anything else, and could not of course view Partners.
Perhaps I am a bit confused as to assigning "group rights". Yes, I watch the tutorial, maybe I am missing it.

Sounds like you just need to set up groups and set forum persmissions for each.
Just look up groups and permissions (separately) in the howtodoit or support forum.

admin (no pm's please)

in phpbb2 there are no permissions associated with categories.
So you can do what you want but do it per forum, assigning the forum as private and then giving group access to the forum.
