For a minute or so about 11.30 I guess I was unable to see the forums servers though other sites were fine.

There was no actual server issue and this is borne out by the traffic graphs that show no blip at all.

Was this my Virgin connection I wonder? Did anyone else have a glitch?

I,m on virgin and my net went down for around 4 mins, i thought it was the usual vista problem so i rebooted. then all was fine.

That's Interesting, we're also on Virgin and often have the same problem but as Symon says, I reboot and a few minutes later all is fine.
