Yeah Virgin can go crap at times, but its the best available, trust me, I just switched to Sky and found that to be absolutely dire, and have switched back to Virgin....good news is, I get the same internet for £20 a month that I was paying £37 a month for before switching to Sky 
Knocked the Sky internet down to the 1mb free version as we were getting less than that anyway yet paying for 16mb..phoned em about it but the bugger on the phone could barely speak English let alone be any help. Still, got me Sky One back now, best channel there is and didn't have it with Virgin. |

to be fair that isn't quite a true reading as it's the same with most people, look at mine, sittingbourne is nearer to me than london is, but my exchange is even closer so my results aren't a true representation of my line speed, a bt engineer actually comented that we have a better line than the exchange and is something he rarely sees, so am quite pleased with that. |

I was amazed with my speed  technically it is a 20mbs connection, but the reality is usually a lot more mundane.
I wonder if as a general rule people see much actual gain above say 4mbs in most circumstances. |

Nice result, that one is giving me twice the speed of Maidenhead at the second, 12 and 6 respectively.
Shows the results are pretty iffy really

the Maidonhead server is the closest to me but 'hangs' all the time so i can't get a result.
my BB is only 2mb anyway which is fine for me to play online games with no problem |

What is your average data center speed for servers? E.g their upload speed is a lot lower then your download. |
