I Have Some Questions About Exporting My Forum to My ServerHey all. I have some questions about exporting my forum to my own home server. (By the by, I posted this my forum, http://neoxforums.com/ is using phpBB)
When I export, will I lose my domain name? Would I lose anything (such as posts, templates, ect), or experience any bugs? Also, do you recommend switching from phpBB3 to Simple Press? I have seen a few people do it and it looks great, nor did they lose their domain name or any posts.
Thanks, have a nice day.

You own your domain name.
An export includes posts template and avatars. e.g. anything it reasonably can.
You can see form import/export threads on this forum that exports are not totally trivial to import elsewhere, they are after all a complex thing, but that people do seem invariably to manage. But you are going to need at least some technical competence. If you have not got that competence then really you should not be trying to maintain your own forum anyway!

Alrighty. So, everything really. When exporting, you're really just taking the files from your server, and putting them on mine, correct?
I would like to think that I have some. I would like to think that I have lots actually.
Thanks for the info.
I plan to export my forum later this month.
EDIT: One more question. Let's say I bought the advert free for my forum for twelve months. Would my website still be add free after it's on my server?

The export does not export the forum code, only the data. The adverts come from the forum code.

phpbb3 has no default ads, only the free forums here do (unless you pay for ad-free).
But it's worth noting that you should take time to play with a new forum set-up before assuming that an import is a simple process. PHPBB does not store posts, topics, users, etc in files, they are stored in a sql database that needs to be imported correctly and some places will not allow large files uploaded (if you have a large forum this may apply).
It certainly is possible, though as Admin said, you do need some technical expertise to do this.
