I understand both sides here.
Mike why not allow your rules to be public, as any one starting aforum will ave more or the less teh same basics anyway.
like my guide i orginally made for the ghosthousegang it is now on tons of forums.

Yeah symon, but it just does my head in. If a forum admin wants a succesful forum, he/she will write the rules by them selves.

I can see both sides of this, I am not above using someone else's text on license agreements, terms and conditions etc as inspiration.
In fact half of web design work is to some degree plagiarism as you look at what is good on the net and get inspired.
Equally we are using open source code with phpbb, and I have in turn contributed tons of code as open source for other people to freely use.
However their are times when just plain copying of other peoples stuff without the common courtesy of either asking or making it your own by editing it to fit the needs of you own forum is going beyond the pale.
With Mike it does seem to be happening a lot, that people are making competing sites by simply ripping off his, so I can understand his reaction.

6. Posting of obscene or rude material either in a topic, your signature or your avatar.
An automatic ban of 48 hours. If more than one post is made in this manner, then 24 hours ban for each post made. Continual posting will result in a Ban for Life.
7. 3 warnings and out
If you receive three warnings, then you will be banned for 24 hours. Any further warnings will result in another 24 hour ban (increasing by 24 hours for each further warning)
8. Double Posting.
You must not post two or more messages in a row in the same topic unless they are at least 24 hours apart. If a message is less than 24 hours apart you will receive a warning by pm. Use the edit button instead.
9. Making a new account whilst on a ban.
If your account has been banned and you create a new account, the new account will be permanently banned and your original account will have an extra 24 hours added to the ban. For each account that is made, an extra 24 hours ban will be added to your original account and all new accounts made will be deleted.
10. Posting messages on the forum.
We encourage constructive comments on the forums. If you have made a post on a forum that we do not deem to be constructive, we will class it as spamming. The post will then be deleted and you will get a warning.
13. The EbaymadForum community rule.
Being a member on the ebaymadForum is not a right, it is a privilege. Any member which any administrator doesn't feel fit to be part of this community, may be removed without warning
14. Spamming = Ban
If you spam you will be banned, if you wish to say something please post constructive and meaningful posts and make meaningful topics, you will be banned for life if we [moderators and administrators] feel you are not posting constructively, this is a serious matter and it will be dealt with seriously
Spamming punishments
1st Spamming offence - 1 spamming warning

15. Bumping Old Topics
Dont post in topics older than 7 days unless you have very good reason to do so, and its going to be unlikely you will do. You can tell how old a topic is by seeing the date it was last posted in. If you do this, the topic will be locked. If you 'bump' more than one 7 (or more) day old topic then you will receive a warning and that topic will be locked. Remember that its 3 warnings then its an automatic 24 hour ban.
16. Avoiding The Filter (2)
If you write a swear word, it would be smililefied, however a small number of members have done this "swear**rd here" This isnt allowed, [putting stars instead of a letter] and anyone doing this from now on will receive a 24 hour ban.
17. Regarding banned members
If you know of any member that has made a new account whilst on a ban, and chooses to use that account, please contact an administrator or moderator immediately, and action will be taken.
If you choose not to contact an Administrator or Moderator regarding this, you may be at risk of being banned yourself.
Administrators reserve the right to check your account to collect evidence, if we suspect you have been in contact with them

The point here is you didn't change anything
you could have moved rule one to rule 7 mixed them around and rewritten them in your own words. for example.
