I don't really know what you mean by a "like button".

some forums have this on, not sure if possible on php. Currently on phone so can't do much digging up. But something like tthis would help grow forums for sure

So it does not requite us to change code it is simply a facebook script that you can put into a template like viewtopic_body.tpl at a point of your own choice.

John, how about knocking up a quick MFF specific guide?

I'm sure people would find it useful
symon

I can do a quick guide on just adding a like buttton that will give you the total like count, this will also if signed into facebook post a message on your wall at the same time.

BUT

Im trying to make it more advanced so not only does it post that you liked it but you can also leave a comment that gets posted on your facebook as well which links back to the post.....

The trouble im having is a standard link will link back to a forum not a certain post, it will post the link as

http://www.howtodoit.myfastforum.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f&t

instead of the actual post in the topic.

So what would a working link be i have tried

Code:
href=http%3A%2F%2Fhowtodoit.myfastforum.org%3Ff%3D{S_FORUM_ID}%26t%3D{S_TOPIC_ID}&layout=standard&show_faces=true

ans also tried postrow.POST id

You can test it here to see what i mean

http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/about3.html

You have to be logged into facebook of course for it to work.
myff admin

{postrow.U_POST_ID}

should be it.
symon

I have tried that but still get the index page or the error view topic.php page.

code i just put in was

Code:

<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fhowtodoit.myfastforum.org/%3Fp%3D{postrow.U_POST_ID}%23p{postrow.U_POST_ID}&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=true&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:60px"></iframe>

<fb:like href="http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/?f={postrow.U_POST_ID}&amp;t={postrow.U_POST_ID}" layout="standard" show_faces="true" width="450" action="like" colorscheme="light" />
myff admin

AH i see you have the button outside of the posts.

Only {TOPIC_ID} is available there.

Maybe my linking code is worng as when i change the above code for topic_id all i see is a post on my facebook which as always shows the index link and once clicked then go to

http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/?p=2#p2
myff admin

how about:

Code:

<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fhowtodoit.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php%3Fp%3D{postrow.U_POST_ID}%23p{postrow.U_POST_ID}&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=true&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:60px"></iframe>

<fb:like href="http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?f={postrow.U_POST_ID}&amp;t={postrow.U_POST_ID}" layout="standard" show_faces="true" width="450" action="like" colorscheme="light" />

clicking on the link on facebook leads too:

Code:
http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?p#p

I have it working ok on a webpage as its just a static page

www.symonfield.co.uk/spurslinks.html

Although it says i liked symon field when it should say spurs links, but maybe that is just the web playing catch up as i changed my page title.

myff admin

Actually the macros there are still bit wrong.

Code:

<fb:like href="http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?p={postrow.U_POST_ID}" layout="standard" show_faces="true" width="450" action="like" colorscheme="light" />

is more like it for that bit. Or:

Code:

<fb:like href="http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?t={F_TOPIC_ID}" layout="standard" show_faces="true" width="450" action="like" colorscheme="light" />

if outside of the postrow loop.
symon

Ok and before i do the guide a last question.....

If you are signed into facebook and click on the like button on the following website

www.symonfield.co.uk/spurslinks.html

You should get the same sort of post as this screen shot

Ok question is why does it still show symon field as the title link , even though i have changed the title in my webpage template, and i also added a meta description, which if im right in think should have been where the insert description here bit shows......

Is this just a case of the webpages and the web need time to play catch up ???
myff admin

In a word dunno, cannot see anything relevent in the docs on facebook.
symon

Still getting

http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?p#p

when outside of post using the code you put above.
symon

Ok putting in the box rather than out seems to be working

Using the code

Code:

<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fhowtodoit.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php%3Fp%3D{postrow.U_POST_ID}%23p{postrow.U_POST_ID}&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=true&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:60px"></iframe>

<fb:like href="http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?t={F_TOPIC_ID}" layout="standard" show_faces="true" width="450" action="like" colorscheme="light" />

I placed it under the post where the other images lay for example facebook,icq buttons sit...

tested on

http://howtodoit.myfastforum.org/about362.html

And the post on facebook gives the page title of profile field
symon

Also noticed if placed outside you would end up liking everypage it showned on once you clicked it once,, this way you can like single posts.....

Guide posted and tested...

Hello everyone

http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like#

Above is a link to an easy way of putting a "facebook" like button on to a specific page

Simply fill in the boxes as it explains on the page and you will then get a choice of 2 codes to use

copy and paste in to the required "plain source editor" e.g. Home page. choosing where u would like as normal

Cheers
