How To Change Forum Owner

Can someone tell me how to go about transferring the ownership of a forum.  The person who set up my one is no longer a part of the forum and I want to change it to myself.

If you are in contact with them you can ask for the control panel password.

Otherwise you need to set up a thread on your forum where we can see members agree the owner is missing, and a change needs to happen.

I do have access to the control panel but it wont allow me to delete the person as they are down as the forum user.  Or do I need their password?  The person no longer corresponds with me so getting in contact is not easy.

Do you mean you have access to the admin panel?
The control panel is here:

Ohhh, no just the admin panel then and not the control panel.

You must give the (myfree/myfast/myfine)forum.org link/address of your forum. A link should be given to the problem if at all possible. Do this whether you think it is important or not. DO NO GIVE YOUR OWN DOMAIN LINK IT MUST BE THE NAME YOU CREATED HERE.
Search on the forum and on howtodoit for your problem before posting. 90% of the posts we get have easily found answers if you search on a couple of key words from your post. If this is not the case report the keywords you searched on and we will make sure search works for the next person to try the same search terms. Each time someone doesn't bother to use the search, questions accumulate in the forum making it harder for people to actually find answers! as people searching will end up finding the question and not the answer.
Keep it to one support question per thread, if you have another question start a new topic. This will help others using "search" to find answers.

Telling admin off for not insisting on this one
Wouldn't be the first time such a question was asked and it wasn't even an MFF forum.

Transferring ownership of a forum is not something to be done lightly. If you have access to the admin panel it is not so much of an issue. People do have a right to be inactive on their forum and then return to it at a later date if they wish. Ownership has been changed before but there has to be a process to follow including emailing the original forum owner as well as the other things admin mentions.
