How the hell do they justifly thisBritish rail ( or what ever now days)
I`m off to northallerton nr Leeds next week for 2 nights, we are going by train , thats 2 adults and 3 kids although only 1 pays
now for an open return it will cost us £158
i`ve gone for the single options and brought early £65.65 there and £65.65 back.
still that is £131.30 if i brought on the day it would cost £148 one way and £148 back
£296
I could fly to spain and back for less than that.

It's insanity, even on a season ticket its probably still cheaper to drive daily to work in London from here than to take the train which is even less understandable than the train being expensive for a family.

Oh forgot to say that is with a family rail card
with out that is works out as
£622 for a standard open fare
0r £249.00 for a restricted buy in advance ticket.

While I think it is disgusting, I also am happy about it, for that is how we get our expenses at work, petrol being too wild, they give us whatever the train fare is.
But yes, the long distance fares these days are an absolute joke, cheaper to hire a helicopter
Northallerton about 15 minute drive from here

Agree - it's crazy. We were hoping to go to Edinburgh from Aberdeenshire but it was going to cost £80 for 2 adults and a 5 year old WITH a railcard and we can't afford that for one day trip.
Anyway - I hope you have a good trip

Always buy in advance and online i say, as you can find big discounts,, however my views are simple, if you can offer discounts online, then you can offer them anyday at the station.

Im sick of the bus fares going up, it's all about making money, they've went up twice in the last few weeks, so I've been walking home from college a lot recently.
I'm actually not too bothered now, its several miles, and takes between 40 minutes to an hour to walk, but it's good excersise.
It's not much money i'm saving, but it's better than Arriva getting my money...

Good to see some teenagers still walk, mine do, but their friends are aghast that they casually walk the 3.5 miles to the town centre

I'm not a teen anymore... but I still walk... 2 miles roughly each way to work, though for that I usually take my bike. Walking isn't too bad ^_^ Try coming from the country :P

Yay good on them!! Our town centre is 12 miles away so a little more than casual walking distance.

Ah I see, you'll have a great time
Yes, wouldn't be a good idea to join you for a pint after you'd had a wedding drink you'd definitely have the advantage on me lol
Later in the year would be great, would be able to get the Mrs to drive me then so I could actually drink the said pint

Well we survied and are back home.. the journey there and back was great "let the train take the strain" really was the case.
Anyway bravo stayed at the station hotel in Northallerton, but the wedding was in brompton.
Got to say every shop i went into the people were so friendly..
Next time i`m up that way which should be in summer, i`ll give you a shout.
